Cricket in Olympics

I think this topic should have a thread of its own and has been discussed around in various threads.

I would like to start off by posing the question of whether T20 is really the format to invest in with regard to the Olympics.

The issue I have is with regard to longevity of the T20 format. I personally don't see T20 cricket lasting too long. T20 when it was launched was exciting and fresh and the people were felt in awe of the format, and the high scoring rates.

However now I feel T20 doesn't really thrill anyone anymore. No one is amazed anymore by an 85 run off 35 balls knock. These have become par for the course now. I think the crowds are thinning, now and I have a feeling T20 reached its peak a few years ago, and is now only going to decline. It never became a mainstream and serious cricketing format, and is already declining.

T20 was big, but be it the IPL, or the World T20, T20 was always a side show on the calendar. I have a feeling T20 could be on the way out. It could exist perhaps in the same way as Hong Sixes does now.

So should cricket really invest in T20 for its Olympic future?

Or perhaps you disagree and see T20 continuing to thrive?

I think when T20 Format launched it wasn't a good idea to promote cricket actually.T20 format has destroyed the true art and class of the Cricket, you will see many players playing reverse hit sixes, switch hit sixes and blalala many other various unique shots but there are few only that can hit a classy cover drive i mean there aren't many players left who can play a proper and classy Cricket shot.I am not blaming any cricketer who hits Sixes by playing new unique type of shots but the problem is i am also not seeing players that can show us the true art of Cricket. If a player makes 100,90, or 80 in 35 or 40 balls peoples find it that it is boring. So, after T20 format cricket has gone fast, very very fast and people want to see just sixes sixes in every ball thus in my view that is the only big reason that is why Test Cricket has got a great downfall and i think that is why ICC is trying to change the time of Test Cricket from day to night also.

After they get cricket into the Commonwealth Games again, then start trying to get it into the Olympics. If an event which includes pretty much all test playing nations isn't able to figure out a way to effectively include cricket, then I don't see how the Olympics will. Rugby 7s was a Commonwealth Games sport for years before they made the step up to the regular Olympics, if Cricket can't demonstrate its suitability the same way, then all the other arguments are irrelevant.

I'd support t20 cricket in the Olympics, but only if it was the pinnacle of that form of the game. If they got rid of the world t20 (which is every two years for some reason), and build up to the Olympic event every four years then I think it would have a place.

It may end up being a bit like rugby 7s, where you have a very specialist squad, building up to the Olympic year. I'd quite like to see England send their test side out to India, whilst our t20 squad is out somewhere else playing a triangular t20 tournament. I guess the only issue would be that you'd get world class players, who'd get into the test side, opting to play t20 cricket because of all the lucrative deals they can bag around the world in t20 leagues.
