Is it possible to save your Custom field settings (on PS3). I've only played a few times but noticed that the custom settings had returned to default when I played the second time.

I don't want to be spending 5 minutes when I start up or certainly when I go online changing the fields and have looked through the manual but can't find anything. Anyone have any ideas (apart from buy the PC version!)

Even that won't help you; there's no way of saving them on the PC version (the copy I own) either as far as I am aware. I think there's more chance of somebody developing a utility to enable you to do so on the PC, but I'm not holding my breath.

It wouldn't be so bad if the default field settings had a few decent formations but I am struggling to find many that I can use. Looks like something else for game next year!

What? You can't even save your custom fields. God damn.

Is there any sign of the AI using custom fields, or does it stick to the presets?

wow I thought it was just in the the demo that you could not save custom fields. How bloody stupid is that.

For all the hard work that Transmission did, they sure did cut a lot of corners. This game could have easily been 8-9/10. Maybe it was released a year too early, should have worked on it more and released it during the next Ashes.

From what I've heard, it looks like they were fighting to kill the bugs and then someone said: Guys, the Ashes is nearly over ffs! Release it already, we'll patch it later'. Let's hope the latter part is accurate...

You underestimate the Power of the P.C. side...

They just use the presets - I believe a random one is picked at the beginning of a new bowlers spell it doesn't change from there (although I haven't played against the AI much in the last couple of days). To be honest having the AI make custom field changes would be quite advanced feature compared to some of the other features missing and problem the games has.

I don't underestimate the modders by any stretch - I just wonder how feasible it is to access that part of the code and to enable overwriting of the custom fields.

I agree with a lot of that and while I agree with the sentiment of postponing the games release, that could only be done in an ideal world. The commercial reality is that game development is an expensive business and missing out on one of the two key value points of the licence really can't be logically justified purely for artistic reasons, particularly when the Ashes is in England (which surely must be the larger market).

We've just got to hope that they make up for not being ready in time by releasing a patch.

AI does use field according to the way you are playing and sometimes I would have to say that it does have its own Field Placings As I struck few fours down to fine leg and long leg and I had 2 fielders there. I don't remember seeing this in the presets available.

Also atleast on Xbox I just create my custom field setting once and it was there in almost all the games I played. I don't know what happens once you restart or shut down the console. As I haven't tried that yet! But for one session the field remains as in if you changed the field once and play a second game your custom field still exists

Anybody got any pictures of fields that can restrict the run rate in tests?

Can anybody post a picture of a field that restricts the computers run rate to around 4 an over.....I'm having a real problem:help

AI batting in ODI's and custom fields

Whats everyones experience with the AI in ODI's? Do they bat realstically? If you do get realistic batting in ODI's from the AI, do you use custom fields or the preset fields?

I have played one full 50 match and the AI went beserk early. I set a custom field then rolled them for 150. Whats everyones experiences?

I can't really answer that question as such accurately, because it would depend entirely on who's bowling, who's batting, but to name a few variables.

The best I can do is suggest a few things to try.

I started an Ashes series (on easy, just to get the achievement of winning it out the way), and with Swann, I got 36 or so wickets.

I set the field defensive, with 4 people on the boundary.
I had to two people around long-on and two around long-off.

When I was bowling, I tried bowling slow, short 'bouncers'.
Where you have the aim on the pitch, I tried to keep the arrow pointing in-line with the batter, and I pulled it back to it's shortest length.

When I was bowling, I usually confirmed my delivery on the first green section on my pace meter (I think it's for pace).

This usually tempted the batter to hit big.
Some of the time I got hit out the ground, but I found it effective for taking wickets.

I'd say around 90% of them were caught on the boundary - but I did have a few edged to my wicket-keeper.

I'm not sure if this will help you, but if it does, let me know.
