DY Patil Stadium is a cricket stadium under construction at DY Patil Vidyanagar campus , Nerul , Navi Mumbai . The stadium will have all the facilities of that of an international cricket stadium. The stadium is designed by Hafeez Contractor and is expexted to be completed in March 2007.
For the pitch 200 tons of soil has been imported from South Africa and is prepared with assistance from University of Natal, South Africa . The three-storey stadium will have bucket seats with seating capacity of 60,000.
Other facilities include flood lights , a gymnasium, under ground drainage system. There won’t be any columns or towers, supporting the the hanging roof. The spectators will get a unobstructed iew of the match from any place within the stand.

Iam an Engineering student from the DY.Patil College,Navi Mumbai and I have been to the stadium at various times during the construction.
The picture posted above is from an earlier stage of construction. It looks a lot better now !
It looks superb, especially the outfield is well looked after and the stands have bucket seats.
It should be ready in a month or two. Just some painting work is left to be done but otherwise, everything from the pitch to the outfield and the huge stands look superb.
I even attended a few T20 games at night here and it looked spectacular.

Can`t wait for some Intl. fixtures to be scheduled.
This could be India`s best cricket stadium, there are talks of the estimated budget for the construction being around Rs.100 cr !

I doubt anyone else here has such a good cricket ground in their college Campus !

I hope they move out of Wankhede ASAP. That stadium has the worst pitch i can think of in India. This new stadium looks like one built to get in 80000 people so dont expect any spectator comfort here also.

Oh... that looks pretty good? Is this the much-touted replacement for the Wankhede?

Was there supposed to be a replacement for the Wankhede ?

was`nt the Wankhede supposed to be fully revamped ?

Well MCA is planning for new stadium for World Cup 2011 finals so Wankhede is going to be dumped soon. Or they can rewamp Wankhede just as DDCA did with Kotla.

Ahh. I guess then that this stadium isn't it. Although I fail to believe that we will be able to build a stadium in 3 years when we haven't been able to build the underlying structure of a flyover (the Bandra-Worli sealink) in over 5 years.

This stadium looks like a big one so can replace Wankhede. Its has got support for floodlights and it only needs a screen and will be up for contest. But im more eager to see what Gurgaon stadium looks like. I hope they gave DLF the contract to build that one cos then it will be best in the planet.

If they haven't started building it, I seriously doubt they will get it ready by WC2k11. Besides, I like the Wankhede because it's about 15 minutes from my house. :)

I thought they were going to build a new stadium in Madras, because the BCCI didnt officially "own" the Madras Cricket Club.

The DY Patil Stadium can seat upto 65,000 people. The outfield is a carpet.
It looks huge and is far better than Wankhede.
The only problem is that it is in Navi Mumbai and not Mumbai. It was a shame that Mumbai could not get a better stadium than the Wankhede !

Wow, it looks like India's version of the MCG, except obviously not that big.....

Still, looks a very promising prospect.

stadium looks pretty good. Will fit about 70 odd thousand people by the looks. Still needs plenty of work on it.

The picture that was posted is actually of an earlier stage of construction.
It is now almost done with some final cosmetic touches left to be given.
I`ll try getting some pictures when my college resumes later this week.

The reason why Iam more excited about this stadium is that if there are Intl. games played here, I may have an easier access to the tickets considering that Iam a student of their Engineering College.

We even met the curator of the Kingsmead (Durban) stadium who was in our campus to look after the pitch and the outfield of this stadium and he thought that the underground drainage here was the best in India.
I don`t think many other grounds in India have an underground drainage system.
