Your Cricket Describe your Style

Bat at three, moderate style, left handed. Combination of styles from Ganguly (stance), Tendulkar (Back lift and cut), and Dravid (straight drive). I HATE to cover drive, usually end up putting half volleys outside off away either down the ground or moving across and flicking it away to midwicket. Love to pull. Averaged 39 with the bat last year with a highest of 122

Open the bowling, right arm fast medium. Clocked once at 113kmph. Love to swing it in and full, knock middle out :). Averaged 26 with the ball at 4.9, with a best of 6/40.

Field usually inside the ring at fine leg or mid off or the slips. Not the quickest but throw myself around a bit and relatively good at catching.

Represent my state first XI, not the U-19 or anything. Almost made the USA U-19's. Hopefully will play for a college next year (even though i'm not going to be in college :p) as it is a higher level then the inter-state league.

All style and no substance when I am batting, though I did ok sometimes.
The second last game I played I got down on one knee and cover drove a 4 off the first ball I faced when we were about 5 for 30, then a couple of overs later I padded up to a straight ball and was out lbw.

I bowled right arm fast medium, sometimes I get sharp outswing, but some days it just doesn't swing for me or I bowl inswing and reverse swing instead.
Keepers and slips/captains would always comment that they had never seen such perfectly straight seam position.

I was usually first change and would bowl long spells and nearly always for under 3 runs per over (I only conceded 3 or more per over once in the last 5 times I bowled). Last match I played I bowled 18 overs in a row on a stinking hot day up hill into the wind on the flattest pitch with the fastest outfiend in the comp, and had figures of 3 for 39 after 18 overs in that spell (the opposition ended with around 6 for 275).

My best match figures with the ball are 11 for 50, I took 6 -24 off 16 in the first innings, then 5 for 26 off 16 in the second, it is still a club record.
And I took 6 for 70 during a school game the same week, including 4 wickets in the last over of the innings (we had given up so I bowled 2 overs of leg spin as a joke that went for 35 and it spoiled my figures).

These days I just mess around with spin in the nets for fun because my knee was so badly injured that I can barely run at all anymore, someone commented that I was spinning it so hard they could hear the ball spinning when I was bowling leg breaks, I could, and I was landing them in the right spot nearly every ball.

I bowled a couple of fast ones last time I was at the nets off a short run, the last ball I bowled I could see the seam was perfectly straight (as usual), then it hit the seam and jagged away a bat width off the pitch.

When I was warming up before that session I aimed for a football post as I walked across the oval, I hit it from over 30 yards away with my only attempt with a leg spinner that turned at a 45 degree angle.

The second last time I bowled at the nets there was a ball lying on the pitch on a good length outside off stump, so I aimed an offspinner at it, and with a "POP!" sound I landed the ball right on top of it at the first attempt, and I mean right on top, dead centre, the ball lying on the ground barely moved, if it was an atom I would have split it with that one.

I seriously LOL'd so hard.

He's being serious, you guys.

Im an opening batsman,my highest score is 73 (I play in a Under 13's league) my batting average this season is 35.6 . I am a right arm leg spinner, i get a little bit of turn (but I am not much of a bowler). My best bowling is 2/20 of 6 overs.

BATTING

Aggressive #4 Bat. Hits straight, plays the short ball extremely well. Loves hitting spinners all over the ground. Avg 34.7 in A Agrade Unfortunately no 100s 88* HS with 5 50's. (Only played for 3 yrs)

BOWLING

Handy medium pacer, very good inswinger, best figures of 3/13 off 8. Just a part timer.

Haven't played for 2 years due to work and having children. Will be getting back into it next summer.

I've changed my technique recently. My style was similar to Matthew Hayden's but as a right-hander and I'm more of a defensive batsman. I would take one huge step down the wicket on my front foot in the direction and my hands were too far away from my body as the bower released the ball. I think that this came about due to my aspirations to bludgen the ball through the covers on a consistant basis just like Hayden did throughout 2001-2004. However, as I rised through the ranks, the bowling became quicker. As an Opening and top-order player, playing fast-swinging bowling is no easy feat. I would get my couple of big booming coverdrives in a game before getting rapped on the pads or getting bowled through the gate. With this technique I really struggled to hit through midwicket aswell, which is often left vacant early on in your innings.

So I decided to start copying Jacques Kallis' / AB de Villiers technique and it has worked out perfectly. Both of them hold their hands still and get into a perfect trigger-movement position to play varies strokes such as on, off and coverdrives, pullshots and cutshots. Instead of holding my hands so close, I softly press my gloves into my stomach and have the bat slightly angled between the wicketkeeper and first-slip. I do this so that I am always playing the ball close to my body and my frontpad - It really helps you play straight and smother the swinging ball and sometimes even turn it into a classy on-drive. This technique has really helped me adjust to playing fast-bowling aswell and should hold me in good sted. I'd advise people to watch and try and imitate Kallis' & de Villiers' techniques - It's done me wonders.

Bowling: Right arm rubbish with tennis ball. Medium, Medium Slow, Offbreak, Top Spinners, whatever. Legspin with the hard ball.
Batting: Slog, slog slog. With hard ball it's just survival.
Fielding: Don't break a finger.
Haven't changed a bit.

I really gotta play more, I so want to start bowling legspin to others instead of bowling alone to a post...

My team rotated the batting and bowling orders each week but in Under 10's I would've batted at 10 or 11. I could really only play leg-side shots then. (Made 41 runs at 8.2. HS 7) I bowled Off-Spin and I got quite a bit of turn. (11-69 in the season at 6.25. BB 2-2).

Under 12's batted at 6 as a bowling all-rounder. I made 50 runs in the season at 7.1 but my main task was to slow the game down all though i could slog. Now I was more of an Off-Side player with a HS of 12* with a straight drive, a cover drive and a cut all for 4 runs. We batted for 3 overs each. Bowling I took 10-89 in the season BB 2-1 again with Off-Spin.

Both seasons I had the best bowling average because the batsmen couldn't take my spin :)

I wish I could check how fast I bowl but I believe it's somewhere around 125km/h at least. Really trying to get that up there by continuing to do weights & strict diet. Left Arm Fast Medium bowler, been combining my style from Johnson, Lee and McGrath. I'm getting pretty spot on with my accuracy but I generally have to give up a lot of pace for it.

Batting wise, I've been studying the techniques of Gilchrist, and I believe I've created a very bad habit of slogging. Been studying Michael Clarke's foot-work and batting as well as Pontings. I feel a lot better now being able to just free attack everywhere in a 270* rotation, pulls, off-drives and through mid-wicket are what I've generally learnt to do.

Haven't really played anything serious in a long time so it's hard to tell what I can do. 3 years ago for School Cricket I did take 4 wickets in 7 balls but thats basically all I've done for a while. Bloody HSC really puts you off everything. I'll only be 18 this year so I'll join a club for the 09/10 season. And I have a friend that knows a lot about and has connections to the Australian Institute of Sport which may be handy later on.

Well basically I am Sachin Tendulkar when it comes to batting, Shane Warne when it coes to bowling and Jhonty Rhodes when it comes to fielding.

Beat that Shubh.

Challenge accepted.

I sometimes change my style according to style, but mostly like Sir Viv, but can be Bradman when need be. Bowling is a weird field, I play according to situation, can be as useful as Malcolm Marshall on my day, but if the pitch is drying and cracking, I'll become the utility spinner like Shane Warne, and perhaps even Murali if I can be bothered.

Fielding, well, a bit like that Jonty guy, but from the players playing now, Symonds, I guess.

Used to be able to get a bit of turn with the ball however I am a keeper. Also I'm quite a defensive number four bat who knows how to punish a bad ball unfortunately whenever I do try and step up and play aggressively I go out playing silly shots, also not the best player of spin.

I m a right hand Extremely aggresive right hand batsmen with a yuvi-meet-stuart broad mindset.i open for my team in batting, bowl right arm fast and some time keep as well when i am tired and dont wanna have a ball. my stance is a bit like pieterson, i like to just press on my toes a bit while bending a bit just like pieterson does when he is about to slog. but i do this as often as possible, kinda give good feeling, feel like grounded there. then i plant my frontfoot across just like ponting, difference is that ponting gets too much acroos(too much offside), while i get my frontfoot slightly across and more forward. I use a higher backlift, similar to Yuvraj singh,so i am very good at hooking and cutting, often i hook from the front foot.though i am really good at hooking and recently using it more oftenly than i should have,(i am trying to pull even good length balls). Earlier i just used to play leg side. i was such a dominant player of leg side, othere teams instruct their bowlers to stay away from my stump and bowl wide of off stump. thats why i was getting out trying to hook short balls bowled wide of off stump. Thus i decided to develop my offside game and added some new shots. It took me a year to get perfect in offside game. now i can undercut, uppercut, cover drive and use back foot punch to a good effect when bowlers decided to bowl wide of off stump. though after seeing the video of how sachin is able to hook bowls wide of off stump to fine leg and suqare leg in slow motion i am now destroying bowlers at will. i will tell u that how he does that. first hit the bowler for a boundry through onside, well for me then their captain instruct to bowl wide of off stump with a 6-3 offside field, now all i do is just when bowler is about to bowl i walk across my stumps (i walk toward off side as well as towards the inside of crease to give me more time). then bang, hit him over square leg or mid wicket for 6.

As a bowler i m a really natural. when i started i was a big fan of Zaheer Khan, so i used o immitate his action, but i allways felt i was bowling slower than i should, i was feeling as if i am not giving my hundred percent. during that period i got shouldar spasm, so i could only bat not bowl. so i started wicket keeping for my team and hell yeah i was great at that.i mean in whole school only i was able to keep up the stumps to a fast bowler.so for bout 6 months i played like a wicket keeper batsmen, and i has a lot successful, hit my first century,a 115* in a 20 over game(that was nightmare for bowlers, opposition scored 221 in 20 overs and then we chased with 9 wickets and 4 overs to spare,i got 114* and my partener scored 96). yeah that was some game. i avged 39 in that season(I only play T20,as i am a very bad test player,i will tell you bout that later). so then this way 6 months passed, then it was last june when our team was struggling to defend a 149 in 20 overs,as opposotion scored 89/1 in 10 overs. my captain asked me hows my shoulder,i said its ok but i havent bowled in last few months,he said we are loosing anyway. so i left keeping and started to bowl off spin. first two balls gone for 3 and 6.My captain said come-on bowl fast. so that day i changed my bowling action, i started to bowl with a shoiab akhtar action. i clocked near 138 (fastest i ever bowled in my life). i got the batsmen out lbw with a toe crusher, next ball was a inswinging yorker,i bowled it as fast as i can, reward stumps flying. i got my best figures of life in that match, 7/12 in 3 overs. I was over the moon that day. since then i am bowling with a Shoib akhtar action but i had to do a lot of exercise to keep up with such an exhaution, coz with akhtar's acion u can bowl serious pace but it drain energy very quickly.

now we come to why i am not a very good test player yet. reason,Temperment. I allways play in T20 mode. only now i had learn that you had to loosen your grip off back hand a biot while defending a ball of else there would be a chance for a thicker outside edge of a simple catch to sillypoint. maybe now i can play test a litle beter, ealier i used to defend with hard hands and generally got thick outside edges. iam practising this nowadays. by the way did i tell ya that i do not respect spinner while batting and in my book if you score less that 15 runs of a spinner then it is a sin. i go down the track as often as possible, if keeper is no standing up the i would even step down the track to fast bowlers 2 or 3 times in the over. my follow through in this shot is similar to yuvraj. sometimes i go through with the shot and sometimes i just check in the middle by locking my wrist to give a cocking effect, this gives serios power in the shot even without a followthrough, now you all know how to hit 6 without a follow through, just cock and uncock your wrist at the right time. Ponting,Yuvraj, Pieterson, and a lot of big hitters use this technique, you just have to see the videos closely in slow motion. this is their little secret, they might not know but they use it. it comes to players naturally, it cannot be taught very easily. not to the likings of rahul dravid.he wud struggle even to clear infield with taht technique.
