i'd say kumble is fine for now. the captain is only as good as his team.
the seniors are experienced enough to know when to call it quits !

The Indian seniors (from what it seems like) have failed consistently for a while now and are obviously now there to milk out the fame they have built for themselves before time runs out. I have yet to see any new players on the test team except Gambhir.

Too long. I would maximum give him the series against Australia. After that, he should be rested and Dhoni should be given captaincy. I guess Kumble himself might make some decision after this series

Well seems to me perfect.One day Dhoni is going to lead India in test also so you can't run away with that fact.

Kumble is intelligent player,though is not performing too bad as a player as weel a captain,he will atleast play for next 8-10 months,because he is just playing test cricket,and not other form,so there wont be any burn-out for him,at least he will paly till Pak series.

omg people saying dhoni as a test captain when he hasnt done anything at all in test cricket so i am not sure he deserves the test. At least Kumble will be there leading the Test Team till Pak 2009 Jan Tour,the rest he might decide later on,right now everybody is concentrating on Ind-Aus series,and not the captaincy issue.

Kumble will be there at least till Pak tour,later he might step down,he is not that kind of a plyer who just plays and stays in team for breaking records.

I guess everybody now(Ganguly-Vensarkar,Kumble-Media,Venkarkar-Kumble) making statements in media,and lashing out each other!!!

Kumble not being 100% fit has played this match, which puts him in very poor light. We could see that he did not get injured during the game because his performance in the 1st innings was so pathetic and suggested that he had problems.

And his captaincy is getting downhill with very defensive mindset, and unimaginative fields. When Dhoni captained for a part of Australia's 2nd innings, the captaincy was refreshing with good field placements, and it helped in Ponting's wicket. DHONI SHOULD BE GIVEN CAPTAINCY FOR ENGLAND SERIES! Either Kumble retire, or the new leader is groomed irrespective of Kumble's decision. I guess Kumble might not play next match making dhoni the captain.

If Kumble is not fit for the second match,offcourse Dhoni might get a chance,lets see,Dhoni is quite lucky for India,if India wins match there,that would put pressure on Aus.

I think Kumble might just retire after this series, Maybe because he didn't want all the stuff about him retiring throughout the series like the current Ganguly thing...Maybe he wanted to do the sensible thing for the team and wait until the final test.

Well Dhoni can't even bat at Test level. If he proves me wrong with a decent average this series, showing that he has changed, then I will be happy with him being test captain.
