I think that when it comes to the mysterious and unexplained, neither crackpot theories nor aggressive skepticism do the subject any good. Ockham's razor can only go so far and before long what you're trying to pass off with simple explanations is actually an extremely complex series of events. On the other hand, if you throw away logic and objective thought, you may as well explain everything as a work of the
Flying Spaghetti Monster.
Take Project Blue Book, for example. This was the USAF's operation to examine and debunk UFO sightings and the like. In spite of all their rigorous investigations, (and keep in mind the purpose was to debunk claims, not verify) 3% of cases remained unexplained.
Now I'm not saying something like "OMG proof of aliens!!!", I'm saying that there's only so far you can take your immediate knowledge, before the things you don't understand catch up with you.
In this case, look at the concept of gravity. 400 years ago we didn't understand it. We still don't really understand it. We know a lot about it, we can explain it's effects, we can account for it with mathematics, but we can't create it in machines or trap it in batteries for later use!
In other words, maybe there are some things that happen that could be explained with a reasonable and scientific explanation, except that we don't understand the science itself.
