Do you think India's National sport should be changed from hockey to Cricket?

But India sucks at Hockey...

What? Yes, i'd agree if it is for 2007 and mid 2008. Shows you don't know nothing about the sport here. Not criticizing you, but saying your points are absolutely not gettable.

Say, Australia sucks at cricket....How is it?

It's more like that..

Peep here:
India national field hockey team - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

And people, Hockey will forever be the most prestigious national sport. Though, i won't see any bad thing happening if cricket will officially the national sport of india. After all, The all india sports association? has promoted many major sports into 'A' or first priority level.

From the 1920's to even till now, Hockey is a mad sport in india. due to the familiarization of cricket, Hockey and baseball too still were equally treated in the country. The famous 'Indian dribble' came from the dribbling gods of indian hockey, and that's where the sport was taken enthusiastic.

Especially in the 50-80's, Just saying hockey would bring thousands and play it all day. Not forgetting, Baseball is also a very strong sport in india and nearly many big universities had/have baseball arrangements.

But I completely disagree with people ever so much. The corruption was in the Hockey association, not in the sport.

For cricket, It never matters if 'un' is there or not in front of official. Cricket is always one of most loved sports in india.

The actual boom that burst cricket wide and made it almost indispensable was the 1983 world cup. After that, you know it all.

But India sucks at Hockey...

Obviously. Winning three consecutive gold medals at the Olympics twice and winning the gold again in two other Olympics is a disheartening record. I believe India still leads the gold medal count for Field Hockey at the Olympics, despite the team's recent failures.

One would have to say that the current state of Indian hockey is in tatters, though. Saying that we suck at the moment is definitely not a completely inaccurate assessment. I am hopeful that the new IHF president (whoever it ends up being, or has already become) is far more useful than the corrupt KPS Gill.

The current Failure in hockey doesn't means that our national game should be changed. It's the fault of our crap media, cricket fans. Our hockey players are not getting status that they deserved. And thanks to our great KPS Gill for making hockey federation full of corruption

Just wait till the Indian team becomes crap (ie goes through a transition process) and hockey becomes good. During the 70s to 80s India were awesome in hockey but was almost a joke in cricket (ignoring the 1983 world cup win) and its because of that hockey became the national sport.

I would be more happy if both (hockey & cricket) will be at their best. (which is immpossible)

But in what years. /End of discussion.

I don'y really think nations should be categorized into having only one national sport. England's is undeniably football, but cricket and rugby are up there in somewhat equal measure. In actual fact, i'd wager that there are more people in England who care about the England cricket team than the England football team. Domestic level is a completely different kettle of fish though.

A blind saying he saw something.

No sarcasm.

Plain, you lived in india? You've been following the sport? You have any analysis of it? You know the history of it? You don't and yet, you're being like a chief or something and trying to make yourself look powered up. Sounds harsh, but i'm not being harsh. Just asking the questions.

Take australian cricket itself, It's been high for ages, and went down in india recently, and won back against new zealand. That's the same thing that happened to Indian hockey. They're still one of the best. They went down on the corruption issues, and won back challenges and finished at a high.

heh.

Yeah spot on. For Australia AFL and cricket are both widely followed.. Many would say AFL is our national sport because it is our sport lol but I think cricket is more supported all over Australia so its cricket for me.

Or I could be wrong and everyone thinks cricket is our national sport :p

Football(real football) is getting more popular and the recent takeover of Sydney FC and if they win stuff and bring in well known players the sport could take over rugby(even though it has more particapants at youth level).

Let Hockey be our National sport. because as compared to cricket hockey has no or less case like drugs intakes cheating lol.

want KHO-KHO or Kabaddi because we are expert in pulling others legs :p :)

What you mean by Let?? Hockey is our national sport.

And for this thread, we should keep our national sport to what it is . We shall not change it.

I dont agree, just because it has got more glamour (due to ICL/IPL),more money in game,we should not change our National game, yes Cricket has got immense popularity here in India but that does not mean we should change our National game...

I agree, the game is very very popular here,but...i personally feel, let Hockey reamin National Game

Oh yeh, thats EXACTLY what I'm here to achieve:rolleyes:

Never met an Indian in my life who gives a damn about Hockey. Thats like if Basketball was Australias national sport, just doesn't make sense. And yes i do follow hockey when the Olympics come around every four years, ever since Atlanta 1996. Still yet to see an Indian match....
