Education's Over rated?

Exams count for nothing!! As long you don't have interest in something just going through it is no good! I suggest you should just check to see if the courses your schools or Uni have are what you are interested in, or else maybe you should opt for external courses that you have a liking for!

It all comes to nothing if you go through school and Uni just to kill time, or because you have nothing else to do!

My high school memories by the way are limited only to cricket matches we played at the School ground!:p

The only other thing I remember is copying all the Probabilty(Math) lessons from my friend, only to know better before the exams. I decided to skip them!!

Well School/Uni is fine for me as long as Seatworks and Homeworks are not graded! :p

and Class time is not like 10 hours a day! :D

A Levels < Degree.

I don't think anyone cares about your school grades once you start work it is actual work experience they are looking for

School grades definitely go after a while. But specialist college courses will for a few years be helpful. Degrees can and often will last for life. I know my Dad has been headhunted many times but it fails on the fact he didn't get a degree. Especially in engineering many companies will only employ you (not the more lower down workers) if you have a degree. But GCSEs are unlikely to be looked at once you are past 20. Work experience is what they look for most of the time.

Why I got the job at M&S. Spent the last two years working in retail

Education is over-rated for some people but unless you plan on starting your own company or spending your entire life in non-graduate jobs (or get very lucky to end up as an accountant), education is the best way to keep your options open and ensure you can find a job that you enjoy and that suits you.
I'd be concerned by the idea you want to do something in football or cricket. Even if you were good enough to play them professionally all young players are advised to have an alternate skill in case things go wrong (injuries etc). If not as a player are you talking about ground staff, administrators, physios? I suggest you get in contact with some people who are involved in sport (your school or local career centre can help) and talk to them about what it is they do and what qualifications they needed.

All that advice might count for more had you not just posted in the "what have you accomplished?" thread saying:

You are not alone buddy!! It's the same here, 24 yrs old and still nothing to justify my existence!!

:p

Education is over-rated if you feel you are being forced to study, cause you'll learn nothing that way and just be wasting your time.

If you do have an interest in a subject and want to pursue a field like engineering or medicine, then education is very, very important.

Education is important.

I want to be rich when I grow up. I want to be able to own that big house and Benze's and such.

The only surefree way to do that is to study, get great grades in high school, get into a top knotch college, and go from there.

You came to know it's over rated (In your opinion) because you have educated.;)..

Amen Brother!

On a side note everything becomes progressively less meaning full in life I mean afte you go to uni nobody gives a rats tail about what you got in your GCSE's and such and such! But you need to do well in each stage to be able to succed in the next one :)

I need my 5 A*-Cs to get into sixth form... GCSEs do matter to me right now.

Yes hence the fact I said in each stage of life they become preogressively less cared about as you went in life...In probably nobody gives a toss about what you get in your german GCSE when you were 16 they care about what you got in uni and what work you have done since!

Is education overrated? No

Do you really want to go through life knowing only what you've read in Heat magazine?

Having said that is it all important? No. You shouldn't feel forced into further/higher education, its not for everyone and some very successful businessmen have left school with very little exam wise to their names. It does ease your path however until you can gain some all important experience. There is no quick fix catchall answer I'm afraid.

Sadly I've reached the point where no-one even cares what my degree classification was...
