England Domestic Cricket 2006

Well done Monty, a neat all-round performance there. You can't help but admire him can you? And i'm also surprised at Notts' relegation; Champions last year, chumps this year.
Happened to Yorkshire a few years back.

True, but i'm afraid Yorkshire are just full-time Chumps.

Still trying to convince a mate to calm down about Pettini's innings...

Well, I believe Somerset finished bottom. A shocking year for us, but I can see us doing better next year. It seems as though Blackwell won't even be needed for the One Dayers next year. I still feel we need a bowler or two, although our batting has improved as of late. Second Overseas player will be key.

Good to see nothing has changed at Lancashire by the way. Batting to a lead of 550+. :tired:

Unbelievable things happening in the County Championship
Pettini 114 off 29 balls
27 Wickets in the Worcester Northants match.
Mushy taking 13 wickets in the match to win Sussex the County Championship.
Fulton making 155 in his last apperance for Kent.
Lehmann making 339 in his last apperance for Yorkshire.
and my man Adil Rashid taking 3 wickets in 4-5 overs.

What more could of happened?

Benham destroying glamorgan at the moment... that brown guy was unlucky to get given out stumped he was in.

Chris Benham is playing a fantastic innings, this Hampshire team is really impressive. I think Glamorgan haven't been at their best today, and with a nice big total on the board Shane Warne will be able to win this today.

All in all, a fantastic spectacle to end the 2006 season.

Yes! Hampshire have done it! I was there at a truly brilliant spectacle of Hampshire cricket. Chris Benham and Sean Ervine destroy Glamorgan! What a day!

They completely outplayed Glamorgan today and thorougly deserve to go up. It was quite sad to see the end of the season come so soon.

At least we can look forward to India v India A next Sunday. ;)

That is crazy. And they still lost. Ahaha.

I was wondering why a part timer was out there opening the bowling when looking at the poor dude who want for 25. It's almost like they wanted them to gets runs quickly.

They did want them to go for runs... In English domestic cricket, and probably elsewhere (I don't know and so can't comment) teams often try to set up a match using declaration bowling. You bring on someone who doesn't normally bowl (probably because most bowlers aren't too keen on going at 20 an over) and they serve up some full tosses with the fielders not being set defensively so that the opposition can reach a total with which to declare and leave a total to chase in a certain amount of overs. It's basically used to contrive a finish in a game that would otherwise be a dull draw.

Ahh, Fair enough. That is good! That they wanted to make a contest out of it.

Those kind of things help the game of cricket in dead rubbers, just a shame Chilton couldn't do the same.

Chilton was under the impression that a Hampshire win could have given them second place, which is why he didn't do anything like that.

It still ruined what would have been an exciting game. The Warne deliveries were impressive though.

Seemed he got misinformed then. If Hants won I think Lancs would've had 220 and Hants 217?
