BREAKING NEWS

Cook Quarantined

England opener Alastair Cook has been quarantined after having been diagnosed with swine flu.

Andy Flower, the England coach had confirmed earlier that Cook has been suffering from what was thought to be a bad case of seasonal flu, but after his condition worsened within a few hours, doctors reassessed Cook, and confirmed that he has been infected with the H1N1 strain of flu, which can prove deadly.

Team doctors have said that Cook isn't in a life threatening position, and he should make a full recovery within the next week. However, the tour directors, along with Andrew Strauss and Andy Flower will hold a meeting over the next few days to decide whether or not to send Cook home and bring in a replacement opener.

England have currently got 4 openers on the tour with them, Strauss, Cook, Denly and veteran pro Marcus Trescothick, but it is expected that if Cook is sent home, Ian Bell will be brought in as a replacement batsmen.

Cook's condition is being monitored, and readers will be kept updated with his recovery.

Training Session Ahead Of 1st Warm-up

The news from the camp today is that Joe Denly will be partnering captain Andrew Strauss to open the batting for England in their first warm-up game in Durban tomorrow.

After the news that Alastair Cook has been quarantined with swine flu, the competition for that position at the top of the order really heated up, with Marcus Trescothick also wanting to play in his first match in an England shirt in a long time.

Cook's condition hasn't really changed, he is still being monitored and is being given the recommended medicine. A decision on whether to send Cook home hasn't been taken, but at the moment it looks like England will wait for him to recover instead of bringing in backup.

Join us tomorrow when we will be bringing news of England's first match of the tour.

First Warm-Up Match is a Washout

A sudden heavy rain storm brought an early end to England's first warm-up game of the tour against a South African Invitational XI.

Andrew Strauss, opening with Joe Denly, won the toss and chose to bat, even though the conditions were better for bowlers. At the beginning of the England innings, Strauss was lucky to survive a good LBW shout, which replays showed would've hit the top of leg stump.

Strauss went on to make an easy 50, coming from just 61 balls, and Denly made an ok 32 before falling. Trott came in at 3, and he made 19 before the rain came.

In the end, England were 105/1, and although the weather improved the next day, there were still very deep puddles of rain on the field, and the umpires took the decision on day 2 to abandon the match.

England coach Andy Flower said that it was a shame that the match ended in the way it did, as it means England have only one more warm-up match, a one-day match against the Diamond Eagles on wednesday before the International One-Day series begins in Johannesburg on friday.

So, tomorrow England have a day off, but Andy Flower and Andrew Strauss will be in a press conference ahead of the upcoming international series.
