Alastair Cook has brought the crowd to life with a brilliant cover-drive for 4 off Jerome Taylor.

And again, an identical shot takes England?s score on 42-0, and Cook?s personal score onto 22* from 35 balls. Only the 2nd boundary of the morning, but because of quick running, England are going at around 4 runs per over.

Another cover-drive by Alastair Cook, he?s been in impressive form, to prove some doubters, like Mr Suram wrong, Onto 29* now. 1 more needed for an opening partnership of 50 runs.

Strauss hits a single off the back foot to square leg to bring up the 50 partnership, its been an impressive start to the summer by the openers.

Wonderful shot off the pads for Strauss, hits the boundary with a thud to signal his move to 22*.

England 56/0 (12 overs)
Cook 30* (39)
Strauss 22* (33)

I wouldnt blame them. Anyways good start by England and if it goes like this I am sure we'll have a crowd tomorrow.

Captain Lara brings spinner Dave Mohammed on and gets punished in his 3rd over as Essex boy Cook sweeps for 4 runs.

Strauss hits Corey Collymore through square-leg for 4 runs. England move on to 74/0.

Lovely shot by Cook, down on one knee like he?s proposing. He moves onto 47*, closing in on a well-deserved 50.

And that?s it, a shot to fine leg brings a single that takes Alastair Cook to an excellent 50 from 86 balls. He can look to go on further here. England are 94/0 now.

Strauss brings up the 100 partnership. Fantastic start to the international summer so far in this morning session for England.

And as the players and umpire go to the pavilion to have their chips and gravy, England are on nelson at 111/0 with Alastair Cook on 60* from 94 and Andrew Strauss on 47* from 74. 4 bowlers have toiled away this morning, Jerome Taylor, Fidel Edwards, Corey Collymore and left-arm spinner Dave Mohammed.

Nice start by England . Cook playing nicely along with Strauss . Hopefully they keep the momentum going on and score another 100 runs in the second session.

Strauss brings up his 50 from 79 balls, with him hitting only 2 fours. Excellent fifty to start the summer.

With the score on 123, Cook is finally out for 63 as Dave Mohammed bowls the batsman, attempting to sweep.

And he raises bat to the crowd during his walk back to the pavilion. He scored 63 from 114 balls, including 5 fours.

Captain, Michael Vaughan comes to the crease for his first test match in England since the victorious Ashes 2005 match at The Oval. The score is 123/1.

With Vaughan at the crease, the running between the two is not settled and England have paid for it. Strauss run out for 57 going for a run that clearly wasn?t available. England need to consolidate after quick wickets.

Strauss makes the long walk back to the pavilion after a silly dismissal. He made 57 from 103 balls, hitting 2 fours. Kevin Pietersen is now at the crease with Michael Vaughan.

Vaughan hits a brilliant lofted cut to the point boundary for 4 runs. He moves to 6* and England are now 132/2.

And Pietersen is getting in on the act now, he plays a shot off the pads to the square leg boundary for 4.

That?s Pietersen?s second boundary, he hits another cover drive, this time on one knee. England move on to 151/2 and his personal score is now 14*.

Vaughan hits his second boundary and it is a standing cover-drive to the cover boundary for 4 runs.

England 158-2 (43 Overs)

Vaughan 17* (28)
Pietersen 17* (13)

Mohammed 10-3-14-1
