Story Englands Tour Of The Sub-Continent (part 2)

day 3 Session 3

The final session continued with both spinners operating, Sri Lanka were more positive from the off, with the field in they were taking advantage and a few boundrys were produced mainly from sweep and cover drivers. The seamers came back for anther spell in Anderson and Hoggard. I must say i have never seen batsmen so untroubled by seamers. Flintoff and Harmison were borught in, mainly to pitch short deliverys in an attempt to finish off the latter part of the Sri Lanka order. It took some time, hooks were played, pull were played, even a few helmuts took a crack, but it seemed in vain. Up steps Harmison who bowled a 93mph ball, very short, Dharmasena (who had frustrated england with excellent spin bowling), went for the hook, timing was all wrong and strangely, it went to read. England werent complaining though, just as sri lanka appeared to be back in with a shout and harmy strikes. With the inform batsmen gone the spinners were re-introduced, and after a few overs loukarachi got frustraed and tried a pull with went straight to square leg. Batty dismissed Kalawitharn just before the tea break. Its looking bleak for Sri Lanka, they will be hoping to give england a target of around 275 to chase, but that looks very unlikely. A collapse could well happen :D At tea sri lanka are 274 after 73 overs

Day 3 Session 3

England were looking to mop up the tail quickly, and they managed it. No thanks to excellent bowling by Batty, whos line and length has been spot on. Despite being hit for 6 off Vaas in the over before. Batty cleaned him up with another peach of a delivery that was similar to the first one. The batsmen satisfied it was missing leg stump, left it well alone only to see it nip back and clip leg stump. Murlitharn was gone the next ball, off a bat pad catch. England now have 20 overs or so to bat before the end of the days play, with all of the fourth and fifth day still to play. Sri Lanka scored 253 off 76 overs.

Day 4 Session 1

With two days to go england are in an almost no lose situation, but that didnt stop trescothick making two boundrys off the first two balls. As the normally acurate Vaas was off line. He and Nassanka both came back though with more steady overs. Trescothick has some making up to do, as he got vaughan run out for just 11 runs. Trescothick looks in great form, he is batting well and is showing his best form of the test match series so far. He hasn't had nicks, as yet. Butcher has had a little more luck nicking one just wide of second slip. Murali was introduced and was obtaining huge amounts of turn, tresco gave him the charge and played a lovely on drive, and square cut, both going for boundrys. Butcher was kept fairly quiet at the other end. Sri Lanka really need to take some wickets, and im sure after lunch the ever dangerous Dharasena will return for a long spell. England will want to continue the good partnership off trescothick and butcher. England are 76/1 off 21 overs.

Day 4 Session 2

Not a good session for england, going from 76/1 they are now 140/6 with over 100 runs still needed. Wickets fell at an alarming rate. Butcher was the first to go playing a cover drive which went straight to a close in fielder. Hussain got an inside edge onto his own stumps, as did thorpe. Flintoff fell just a few balls later trying to hit Dharamsena out of the ground. Trescothick however appeared unfazed by wickets falling around him. Read came and went like a common cold. England are in danger of throwing away the game. Batty arrived at the crease and rode his luck, getting to fours off nicks. Sri Lanka with no slips in place, trying to keep the run rate down, will be cursing their luck. One nick off a forward defensive going very fine, and the other off a cover drive. England need Trescothick to spend time at the crease, and pick up the odd runs as there is time left to play in this game. Wether anyone can stay with him though remians to be seen. England are 140/6 after 49 overs.

Nice to see that a few people are indeed reading my posts.

Day 4 has been fantastic for England.

New Zealand are something like 70 for the loss of 6 wickets.
Will post as soon as the day/ match gets over. (whichever is first:p )
