Story Englands Tour Of The Sub-Continent (part 2)

Day 4 Session 2

England see out the final overs of the session without the loss of a wicket, Vaughan & Trescothick manage a boundry each. Sri Lanka have also given away 2 byes, they will need to improve if they want a chance to win or draw this game.

Day 4 Session 3

England in a strong position were able to leave the deliverys they didnt like and play the ones they did. The opening batsmen were in confident mode and strode comfortably to another 50 run partnership. Trescothick looking shaky but vaughan at the other end was looking stable. Trescothick was eventually caught lbw to an absolute peach his lack of footwork was noticeable. Same with mark butcher, england seemed lacking in confidence to charge down the pitch to rule out the lbw, he was caught plumb in front off spin bowling as well. Vaughan survived the spin and was playing it comfortable but a return to the faster bowling of Vaas caught him off guard and he was adjudged to be lbw, was a close decision though as the ball appeared to be just missing leg stump. England are 113/3 after 31 overs. Sri Lanka have given away 24 runs in bye's so far, thats simply to much, and it could cost them the game unless we see a batting collapse by england.
England just praying it stays sunny tommorow, for what should see them to a comfortable win and a lead of 1-0 in the 3 match series.

Anyways, best of luck on your chase. Remember, we arent good players of spin on subcontinental wickets.

bollocks thanks mate i have been up all night and i think its stating to show. it will be edited again lol

well thankfully for england the rain stayed away and enabled england to grasp victory in the match, Sri Lanka bowled terrible giving away bye, after bye and despite the loss of a few england wickets just short of the total required it was an easy victory in the end. England lead the series 1-0.

I will now be using Tutsi's new patch 4.1 for the remaining tour, or untill a new version comes out. Glad i already have a victory under my belt !

How are the Tutsi patches going? Looks like the scores are kept down which is great.

i havent played a game in my tour with it yet, however i played a few overs in a exhibition test match, tis a great patch, the height and placement of shots is superb. byes are a problem tho, not just with tutsi's patch

You seem to have imported your pitch-ad wrong. The blue bit should be transparant. Make sure the transparant option is checked when you click import.

2nd Test V Sri Lanka

Dusty Pitch, Hot & Humid, no chance of rain.

Sri lanka win the toss and elect to bat, not a hard decision to make, vaughan said he was dissapointed to lose the toss as it looks like a batsmens paradise, but if england can apply some early pressure on the sri lankan openers then you never know what might happen further down the order. Gareth Batty replaces the out of form ashley giles, sri lanka field an unchanged team full of spinners.

Englands opening bowlers Anderson and Harmison both enjoyed good early spells without really threatening, the only chance within the first ten overs was a nick courtesy of Anderson which flew through third and fourth slip. With the openers unable to really threaten sri lanka gareth batty was brought on with hoggard bowling at the other end. Batty was able to obtain large amounts of spin and had atapattu looking uncertain. Batty bowling round the wicket had one that pitched outside off only to cut back in and catch the outside edge of atapattus backfoot defensive and fly straight down thorpes throat. Unfortunatly batty received little support from the other end and sri lanka managed to build a 50 run partnership, which also saw Jaysuriya pick up a neat half century, his 50 came off a six, which was actually caught, but just behind the line. Obviously keen to improved the run rate he attempted a similar shot two balls later however this time the ball had less purchase on it and went straight to the fielder. So at lunch Sri Lanka are 87/2 after 27 overs. With the wicket of Jaysuriya falling just before lunch the first session just goes to england.

2nd session day 1

ENgland couldnt have wished for a better start after lunch, Batty immediatly struck, a sweet inside edge off sangakara's bat had him clean bowled for 13, with Sri Lanka aonly adding a further 3 runs before the wicket. A few maidens later and michael vaughan did exactly the same, this time tillakartn was the victim. Both times the ball was quite wide of the offstump and attempted paddles resulted in inside edges on to the stumps, really both deliverys should have been well left alone on this spinners paradise. With the pressure really on Sri Lanka went into their shells in a bid to try and post a decent score and although the run rate was exteamly low they edged nervously on to 132. Flintoff was brought back in after a miserly first spell and instantly found the outside edge of kaluwitarna bat, which butcher took comfortable in the slips. The following over from Anderson saw the new batsmen really struggle and Anderson produced two nicks off as many deliverys which flew through the slips both times. A adjustment in the field which saw the slips cordon re-inforced for the final three balls of the over. Just as well because the next delivery found the edge again, this time butcher was in the right place and took the catch. Again Sri Lanka lose a vital wicket just before the break. So at tea Sri Lanka are 143/6 after 55 overs. Definatly Englands session, a great bowling performance and they will be hoping to be batting before the end of the days play. Sri Lanka will be looking for a target of around 200 although there performace will need to improve after tea.
