Favorite World Cup?

Any world cup because India has never lost to Pakistan :P. Umm yeah I've only watched the 96, 99 and 03 world cups. I could have watched 92 I guess but I was 5 and didn't have much interest in cricket then. But I think 1996 was the most exciting because it was (a) played in the Indian subcontinent and (b) because a new brand of cricket was being discovered by the Lankans. Jayasuriya's swashbuckling hitting was amazing. India played well and got to the semis to be beaten by Australia. That was a sad moment.

After that I would rate 2003 better even with the inclusion of the minnow teams. Maybe its because I remember more of it but I still think that this WC had many good matches. Much better than the 1999 one for me because that was held in England. :P I think some of the minnow performacnes were also good like John Davison's smashing innings. Another thing in 1999 was Neil Johnson's amazing run -- he just seemed invincible. ANyways. that's all before I get too nostalgic.

1996 is my favorite world cup.
there were some really good matches. india vs pakistan :cheer , westindies vs southafrica :clap , westindies vs australia at Mohali :hpraise .

i liked the 2003 1 india played really well could have won it against the aussies if it wasn't for steve bucknor... india played and maintain a good battin felid and bolwing...that was the year when i just started to like cricket... if u compare india to then i think india isn't play at its best and it needs to

Dude what are you talking about India could of beaten Australia? Australia smashed india both times by huge margins. 99 was my fav.

sohum India lost to SL in 96 semi...

and groobz - since 99 WC India has been smashed by Aussies as you say, but before that India have run them pretty close - one or two victories and two losses by a single run and one by 16 runs...

nope Shake. India didnt do well in both matches against Australia in the 2003 edition. Reasons can be attributed to many factors, but we played badly. I know it hurts a lot as I watched those matches waking up early in the morning.. The final was spoiled of a good game when Zaheer bowled that first few overs. He was trying to be too aggressive and even had some altercations with Hayden and Gilly. Ganguly winning the toss and deciding to bowl seemed a bad decision to me. That set the tone of the match. And the Indian bowlers were under enormous pressure to deliver coz it was a final where they have not been in the past 20 yrs.

we had a bad match against australia in the 99 edition too.. i think the whole world cup was not a good performance by india (except for that win against Pakistan!). A heartbreaking defeat to Zimbabwe where we should have won easily.. a very close defeat to South Africa and losses to New Zealand and Australia.

They got beat fairly comprehensively in the 99 world cup too! :D Lucky Robin Singh and Ajay Jadega decided to turn up, because the rest of the team didn't! Won't forget them both smashing Shane Warne to all parts, i've never seen him get taken apart like he did that day.

both of you have quoted me and misunderstood me at the same time..."since 99" i said...that is of course meant to include all WC Ind V Aus matches in 99 and 2003...
yeah the 99 match was the typical scenario for those two to come in...this time just to save face...but India were out of the semis the day they lost to Zim...of course they would have made it had they beaten the aussies...but it was really improbable..

btw this aint abt Ind V Aus in WC's...ok lets talk abt our favourite/hilarious/poignant WC moments or memories or anything abt the WC's...

anyone heard about one of the best ODI innings ever not being captured on camera? well Kapil Dev chose a day in Turnbridge Wells to score 175* in a score of about 266 after India were 5/17 against Zimbabwe...and the BBC chose the same day to go on strike...there's no footage of (in my opinion) the best ODI innings ever...

Shane Warne has been smashed around by Indian batsmen quite a lot, actually. I think it was the 2001 series where he got smashed by Tendulkar for so many fours in one over that he ended up bowling a bouncer the last ball! As for World Cup performances...I think my favorite was Sachin vs Pakistan '03. I cannot really remember the other cups (they're too far behind in memory) but that was one game which just got me so excited.

What was particularly funny was Shoaib talking up the situation in the press the night before and the first over he bowled he was taken for 20+ runs. Needless to say, he didn't bowl another over in that spell. :P Another moment I remember from World Cup '03 was when Sachin hooked David Gough out of the stadium. That was a fascinating shot.

My favorite World Cup moment was of course in the 1996 famous India-Pakistan match when Jadeja carted Waqar Younis for some 26 runs in an over (i think i'm right). and then Venkatesh Prasad bowling Sohail and then sending him back to the pavilion with a great gesture! Another world cup moment is the 2003 innings of Tendulkar against Pakistan. Simply mind blowing. That one over against Shoiab Akthar who actually was overconfident the day before..

having watched the 99 and 2003 and little bits of 1996 i would have to go with 99. in 03 australia were just that good, it showed in the final with ponting almost outscoring the whole team he was that good. 99 showed how good they could come back plus they wore those mad yellow shirts. and we would have won it in 96 but the pitch was convieniently prepared to suit sri lankas almost 10 spin bowler strong attack, they opened the damn innings with a spinner and over 40 of their 50 overs was spin bowling. that sounds like home town advantage to myself, probably because we lost though.
