Fm 2006

Got my PC back for the second time, its all good again with some upgrades. Power was off half the day, so the FM stuff will be up tomorrow I hope, now its time to get some GTP practise in for my league race tomorrow.

Heres my stuff, apologies about the rather huge image sizes, but i'm in a rush. I should be able to clean things up tomorrow.

My stats are good, not better than Kevs I don't think.
Also No. 1 ranked world manager, got that about 2 seasons ago and top ranked national manager.

End of Season Report

Well I've finished my first season in charge of Athletico Madrid.
After beating Barca to the spanish cup my season tailed away and Real Madrid overtook me on the final day of the season to take 2nd spot. Barca were runaway league winners. One consolation is I was miles ahead of 4th.

I currently have no transfer funds so I'm hoping for some cash at the start of the season.

I was reading through this and there are a few quality youngsters that need to be said:

Ismael Aissati - 16yr old Dutch LM/AM. Play as PSV. Costs bugger all to sign cause he's 16 you can sign him from the start. Has massive potential, he started for my tottenham side straight away even being so young.

Sergey Kisily- 17yr old Belarusian striker. Plays at MTZ-Ripo. Cost me around 900k to sign and he's up to 10.1M after 2 seasons.

Anthony Silva- 23yr old Paraguyan keeper. (can't remember where he plays). He is the bargan of the game. Costs about 20k to sign and turns into a great player. In my game he's up around 4.8M but my assistant thinks theres a lot more to go.

Leandro Gioda- i think he is about 19-21yrs old. An argentine CB. He costs about 1M to sign and has excellent heading, strength, tackling, speed and fitness. He's very solid at the back and wins everything in the air.

Karl Svensson- 21yr old sweedish defender. Can be signed of free transfer at the start of the game. He's got much the same stats as Gioda. In my other games he often gets picked up by Man Ud and Liverpool.

Darryl Knights- 17yr old english, Ipswich striker. Is touted as the next Michael Owen at the start. Really quick with good dribbling and finishing.

Billy Jones - 18yr old Crewe defender. Touted as the next Jamie Carragher. Can play anywhere in defence, can play RM, DCM and is also a natural CM.

Kristian Sarkies- 18yr old australian attacking midfielder. Plays for Melbourne Victory. Has pretty high potential and is cheap. Only downside is his defensive tactics are poor and it is extremly hard to get a work prmit for him.

There you go, hope that helps someone.

Has anyone had a player who's had such a horrific season as this?

I bought Brazilian striker Fred from Lyon and during the 2007-2008 season he was only fit for 8 games! He suffered during the season a damaged foot, Sprained wrist, torn calf muscle, twisted knee and a hip injury.

This should really be out of place but I bought Podolski (CM 2006) and in his first game (against Liverpool) he got injured with Shin Splints and was out of action for 5 months. Turns fit and scores on his return. Next up Liverpool again, injured again for 5 months. I had just 1 game of him and a goal.

I love this game. I bought it in July and find it addicitve.

I started unemployed on the game and Pampilhosa hired me. (Second Division C - Portugal - for those who don't know :D.) And came first and won promotion to the Portugaese Second League. The only bad thing about this game is that it is 2D. If it was like Fifa (3D) it be next to perfect.

Sorry for the thread bump :p.

:cheers,

anyone downloaded and played the 89/90 season from the dugout site? i wont the league with everton first season, graham sharp scoring 40 goals in all comps that season, got to cup final aswlel, 1-0 up but arsenal came back and won 2-1, but kevin campbell scored the winner, so ill let them out

If you've read some of my posts in this thread you'd have seen I did pretty well on FM06.

Unfortunatley (for me) I'm still having real problems in FM07.

Everything goes well for the 1st season (and sometimes the second) but then its like a switch is flicked. I'll go from top of the Premiership and doing great in Europe to not being able to get a decent performance out of the team even against lower opposition in cups. I've tried changing my training, buying in players, selling underperformers and employing different tatics but nothing helps. I've started the game over and over and bought different players but each time the result is the same.

For example I even tried editing the database to give me the cash to pretty much buy anyone I wanted. 3 games before the end of the 1st season it started to go wrong and I drew my last 3 games and lost the championship by a point to Arsenal on the last day. I did however manage to beat Barca in the Champions league. Preseason went well, I toured spain beating decent sides and beat some decent ones at home too. Then the season starts. 7 games in and I'm last!

Anyone got any idea what I can do to stop this?

The game has certain points where it re-evaluates sides. So if you were mid table side and are doing really well, at those points it will re-evaluate your team and consider them a geniune threat.

Ways to counteract it are generally tactics. Basically teams will be treating you with more respect, and trying to sit back and hit you on the break. So the key is to play a slower tempo, more width, patient and break them down. Have a look at opponents tactics and you should find they are playing more defensively even at home. Can try dropping your defensive line back, in the aim of forcing the opposition to commit players on the attack, and create space in between. If you defend quite high up everything can get compact and allow them to hit you on the break.

Just to say against other top sides, your existing tactics that worked should still do as well, but it's the weaker sides that will go much more defensively against you. Also if you are struggling towards the end of a season, you can try reducing the training workload a little bit, as by then it's deep into a season, and training shouldn't be playing as bit a part.

Have you already tried any of the suggestions above? I've played every Cm since the first one through to the most recent one, so I've normally got a few ideas up my sleeve ;)

Thats pretty much what my current tactic dictates. Its not like I was over performing, I was expected to do well even in my first season, I think I was second fav for premiership when odds were announced and favourite for europe (made a couple of signings). I lead the premiership from about my 3rd game and was favourite to win virtually all my games throughout the season. As I said I had edited the database to give me more cash, I also upped my teams reputation so I could sign world class players.

What are your current tactics then Kev? Also who are you playing as?

I'm playing as Liverpool. As I've said I've played the game a few times over now and tried different formations and tatics. It would take for ever to describe all the tactics I've tried but here are a few of the formations I've had sucess with.

I would generally use a maximum of 2 different tatics per season. Constantly changing formations and tactics has an adverse effect on your teams performance and it takes a few games for a new tactic to "settle down". It actually really bugs me that you have to come up with new tactics every so often even when you have a top side. Lets face it you dont see Wenger, Jose, Fergie, Rafa et al mucking around much.
