I use a TV tuner card. All of the them (even the basic ones) have the record function.
The only drawback is that the AVI file created is huge in size. For me, 1 GB per minute (not joking). So, for recording a 60 minutes program, one must have 60 GB of free space in his hard disk. That's pretty difficult for them who believe in splitting.
But, a feature in my TV tuner software is of separating the video files after a certain span of time with the facility of selecting new destinations for each of them.
