Well then your board has to take steps to increase their financial position. Produce cricketers who can build an attractive image for the country and boost the financial prospects of your board. The Indian board is so rich because India has produced so many superstars who can attract lot of fans to the game.

Do the boards get any money for the players that play in county circuit? Same way, why should IPL pay money to the boards? Once freelancing becomes big, this wont need to be talked about.

India's population- One billion
New Zealand's population- Four million

New Zealand has plenty of stars in cricket, Taylor, Vettori, McCullum, and Ryder are all big names over here. The main difference between us is the population size and the crowds we get to our games, it has nothing to do with not having 'star' players.

The IPL should pay for taking away other countries player's though, why should the IPL and the BCCI make money of Brendon McCullum and Ross Taylor when they've done nothing to help with their development?

This. NZ still has a good amount of talent in their team considering their population.

Not only that. New Zealand is not very popular when they face off other teams. For example, an India vs New Zealand test match played in India is not as popular as an India vs Australia or an India vs South Africa test match thats played in India. There lies the difference. You guys need to do something to get your team to be attractive.

That's the same all around the world. The two teams that draw the biggest crowds in New Zealand when they tour here are England and Australia. When Pakistan tour late this year the crowds will be pretty small but when Australia get's here in Feburary the ODI's, 20/20's and even the test matches well be pretty packed.

BOOOOOO!!! DEATH TO MODI ! DEATH TO IPL ! DEATH TO T20 ! :sarcasm

seriously, its getting really boring and repetitive.
we have the money, we are using it. i agree its an overkill but nobody is forcing foreign players to
choose club over country. its not our fault if your respective boards cant pay enough. you would've done the same.

money / survival >>>>>>>> ALL !

you make it sound like they are using the players as a slave. its not like they dont get paid! they do get paid, and its another opportunity for them to play cricket and earn some $$

well, I kinda agree, but a lot of these players do have contracts with the boards of their native countries. Ross Taylor for example gets paid by NZC and holds a contract with them. So it makes some sense that boards should be compensated for the BCCI using players that hold agreements with other parties.

There is a certain amount of blackmail, a lot of players have said they may reject central contracts in the future though if they are forced to miss out on the IPL given that it's worth more than playing for their country. So boards are being forced to release their players without incentive to themselves because the players hold all the aces.

They definitely shouldn't be paid for uncontracted players playing in the IPL though, that would be treating them as slaves being passed around.

actually, I've just remembered that no objection agreements are required for non-central contracted players as well, which seems odd, but I believe it was brought in to stop free-lancing by turning down central contracts. not really sure how this works, surely a player with no affiliation to a country other than being born their should not require permission where to play cricket.

Put it this way. If Ross Taylor plays for his IPL franchise and get's injured during his time there, what do New Zealand cricket get back in return?

A big load of nothing.

And while Taylor's missing time because of this injury New Zealand cricket loses one of it's best player's, team performance will most likely drop, and crowd sizes may go down slightly because one of our big player's are missing.

I say pay the player's and pay the boards for loaning their player's out to another countries tournament.

A player can also get injured while taking a shower. The soap is a dangerous object.
