Ashley Giles, the former England left-arm spinner, will join the England Performance Programme (EPP) squad in India as the team's official spin coach.

"I'm really looking forward to the opportunity of working with the players involved in the EPP," Giles said. "It's exciting to be so hands-on in a coaching role, particularly with my new position as director of cricket at Warwickshire.

 Well...err, let's see what happens?

yup, even Faisal Iqbal scored a 100 once ;).

A few months ago we were talking about Warne....and now this. How does Panesar expect to learn off someone he's better than! I guess he's not the worst choice, he always gives 100% and he won't struggle to fit in.

Panesar isn't in the Development squad!

Giles will be working with Rashid, Tredwell and Scofield and I'm sure he can teach them a fair amount about international cricket. When will people learn being able to spin the ball miles is useless if you can't decieve the batsman. Besides what has his ability to spin the ball got to do with coaching? Are batting coaches better batsmen than the people they coach?

h lol I thought it was the first squad, this makes more sense then! Still Rashids probably a better spinner if he's in it :p

As Geoffery Boycott said..."My MOM Could Hit Him With Stick Of Rubab".

England could have asked any subcontinent player to do the same or ask Mushy or Saqlain for that who are now English citizens.

Perhaps most his 143 test wickets were against people worse than Boycott's mum then.

Jayasurya has more wickets than him. Does that make him eligible for this post??

No he hasn't he's played in almost twice as many matches and has less test wickets.

Admit it biut he has 307 odi wickets. More than most Englishmen

People do forget Boycott's cricketing pedigree

It's fair enough really to say that his ability and record are irrelevant. Troy Cooley, Terry Jenner, John Buchanan, Dav Whatmore; names of prominent world coaches who ranged between Test rejects and the pretty much useless.

Definately. A good player =/ a good coach.
Just like: A bad player =/ a bad coach.

The only connection between playing history and good coaching is experience playing at the highest level and Giles has that.

What will he teach them. Can Jhon Buchannan teach warne how to bowl.
Infact in Australian system, batsmen look after batting part and bowlers look after bowling part. A coach is for strategy designing.

If a player is not successful then it doesnt mean that he wont be a good coach and vice-versa.Tom Moddy was not the successful player look at his coaching.Infact those players who have struggled in their life turned out to be better coaches than others.
