Give it to me straight

Haha a snooker game more immersive than DBC on Xbox 360? The only ones I know of are the couple of 'WSC Real' games and the controls in those are the complete opposite of immersive... And horse racing? This is getting ridiculous.

I don't get some of the snarky comments at him to be honest. Terry must like cricket to even have picked this game up to be fair, and he's having a few problems getting into it. He needs constructive advice, not people telling him the game might not be for him. That kind of suggestion has never worked before and it won't work here.

I think it's entirely reasonable to suggest that the game might not be for him - I quite like motor racing but something like GTR Evo isn't for me... I'd play it now and again for a challenge but something a bit more wacky like Next Car Game is more my cup of tea for racers usually whereas when it comes to cricket/football/tennis/snooker I prefer the games to be as realistic and challenging as possible.

DBC14 is bound to just not 'do it' for some people.

I don't think it's useful at all. If all he needs is proper advice to help him 'get it' then being told the game isn't for him is not useful in the slightest. It's about as useful as not making the comment at all.

There has been plenty of sound advice given in this thread and people saying what makes the game enjoyable to them - if the advice isn't helping and he just doesn't get enjoyment in the same way as a lot of us do, then the game simply not being compatible with what he likes is a distinct possibility.

Perhaps he needs help understanding the advice too, which is as helpful as the advice itself. Understanding why something works is a key part of understanding the game itself. When you're frustrated it's easy to misunderstand due to preconceptions and agitation.

@Terry Alderman :If you want to control the foot movement fully then play at Veteran level...There you get to choose your foot movement and shots...Getting out or hitting for boundaries totally depends on how you play at that level....I actually found playing at Pro difficult as there was some sort of assistance in footwork with which I was not comfortable...

Oh god... The dude doesn't enjoy the game, who cares? He's an anomolie. I fully don't begrudge anyone who's not into the game and not waxing lyrical about how terrible it is or scripted randomness. He's admitted he just doesn't get it, so it's a totally reasonable comment to suggest that the game simply isn't for him. To suggest a horse racing game is more immersive than the best cricket game we've ever had isn't bordering on the ridiculous, it is ridiculous. He just doesn't get it, simple as that. He'd be one of not many.

Totally agree with this for sure....

Ah u beat me to it... Nonetheless, it may very well be true...
The most important aspect; of any entertainment media i'd say, is immersion... U need to just capture the minds of your users... Immersion isn't achieved by any specific aspect of a game, its the whole experience thats supposed to pull u into it...
In this case, if the OP is experiencing better immersion in other games, this may just not be the game for him... Though he may come to enjoy some part of it, but he may never enjoy it as much as we do...
It had to appeal to him from the get go...

Not sure you can say it's "ridiculous" without knowing which game he's talking about, and playing it. I'd be interested as to which 360 Horse Racing game (and indeed snooker game) he's talking about.

But I do agree that this is an echo chamber of people just throwing in their opinions like they are facts - different strokes for different folks. No-one is right and no-one is wrong: I've never understood why people can get so offended when someone disagrees with them!

Point 1: I'm always right. When it's claimed I'm not, the claimant is incorrect and should be drawn and quartered as per PC.net law.

Point 2: A scattering of folks here are wound tighter a fresh hay bail and can't discern between active discussion and "ermehgerd, sew rewde!" It's their duty to act offended, gives the mods something to do. Thankfully, only occasionally do inmates run this asylum...

I doubt anyone of sane mind genuinely loses sleep over being disagreed with on the internet... Especially about a cricket game.

EDIT:

It's worth noting too the title of the thread isn't "give it to me in a gentle, conversational manner" ...I'm sure he's happy for people to doubt his comparison of enjoying farming games over a cricket one for if any other reason he's shitting in our bed here! It's a cricket forum! It's also a great game. He's quite welcome to not enjoy the game, though. Just as I'm allowed to walk pant less through the supermarket. Does it mean people point and laugh at me? Yes.

I do have to agree with that one @Biggs. If the title and tone of the original post was a little more constructive, then perhaps he would have got a little more constructive help in return.

I'm with you on that, I was totally underwhelmed with the ridiculously laborious missions and I didn't bother finishing the game. Between GTA and the thoroughly, continuously underwhelming Assassins Creed games in think it's totally okay for some games just to not be "right" for some people. There's plenty of folks who love those games, just didn't inspire me in any way, certainly not to the same levels of incredible like DBC14.

I totally agree with you regarding Assassins Creed. I've been bored through the first 3, so didn't get the newest ones. Never understood the love of it.

I'm not as thrilled with DBC14 as you are, but then I haven;t been able to immerse myself properly due to the save game thing. But now I'm getting through some career games, I'm getting into it. Like Chorus said earlier, when I first played it I was "WOW, THIS IS INSANE!". If you like cricket, I find it hard to believe that you wouldn't enjoy any part of the game.

I personally think that because it doesn't have the "pick up and play" factor, like FIFA and the like do, it may not appeal to the casual player.
