Your Cricket hi, im a leggie, how do i avoid getting slogged?

All good tips mentioned above with the key being able to vary your pace, flight and turn. Also, try to keep your confidence and back yourself at all times - it's not great to be smashed for a six but the worse thing you can do is let your head drop and lose self belief.

The other thing you must do is to make sure that you have the correct field in place. Get men on the boundary (or even ten yards in to make the batsman risk the lofted shot) as well as one saving the single and really make the batsman think about where he has to place the ball.

Work out a game plan and stick to it - the worse thing you can do is to start chasing the ball and moving the field around constantly.

Yep, those tips there are the most important. A bad tactic is to lose your head when the batsman is putting the ball in the air. As Richie Benaud says a great player once told him "tossing the ball up isn't an invitation for the batsman to hit the ball into the stands; it's an invitation to hit the ball into the outfield."

I know, but just string a couple of maidens together and it really puts pressure on the batsman - suddenly he's under pressure to score off you rather than you being under pressure to stop him scoring. When the pressure's on him, that's when he'll do something stupid.

ive been keeping wicket for the firsts recently, and its difficult for young spinners to keep their head up. when i turn out for the second in cup matches (ssssshhhhhhh im not supossed to play in them) i bowl a bit. its going to be difficult to bowl the maidens. if you can turn it a bit bowl just short of a length and have the batsman either reaching or prancing down to you, if you dont turn it much zipp the ball into the block hole every now and then (once or twice an over) to keep the batsman true, if you cant bowl a quicker ball well try and put a puse in your bowling action so the bat is aleady moving when you bowl it.

i bowl on a leg-stump line and generally have quite a bit of success there, but somtimes there are batsmen who just come down the wicket and slogg me for four quite easily. how do i avoid this, and how can i get him, where do i bowl?, etc.....

:help

There are numerous things you can do. Flighting the ball more is the main solution as (especially if you dip it*) can cause batsman to mistime their advance and especially their shot.

A top spinner would also be useful as the batsman will be on the front foot and if you can get the ball to kick up you can get it to come off the glove or the handle for a close catch.

If batsman are compulsively doing it every ball then chuck down a wide one for the stumping, maybe warn the keeper between overs that it is coming though.

*Dip can be achieved by flighting the ball and putting revelutions on it.

Variation is the key. I've had a few guys stumped coming down the track to my flighted delivery.
Bearing in mind you probably don't turn it much (maybe you do!) and most pitches are spinner unfriendly use the change of pace well. Anything you can send above the eyeline will be very hard to time properly.

I agree there.. Flight the ball, and try to vary every delivery. Also, having the quicker one in your armory can really help. When I bowl Off-spin (I suck at leg Spin), the quicker one is usually my wicket ball.
