Just goes to show how well the Windies did, against what is widely believed to be the best Test team ever.

B) I've always kept faith in them. Ever since Hooper became captain we started to improve with the bat. I hope we stuff them in the ODI's

Better than Bradman's 1948 invincibles ?

Wonder how the stats compare

Yes Zim, it'd be interesting to see. The other team in the fray would be the Windies team of the 80's (Richards,Lloyd,Marshall, Roberts, Greenidge...wow, that was some team!).

yeah, maybe it's because I was younger but I used to be in awe of that 80's Windies team.

Which bowling attack would you prefer (assuming all players were in their prime) ?

Marshall
Holding
Garner
Croft
Roberts

or

McGrath
Warne
Gillespie
Lee
Bichel

Phew that's tough

If you could get Warne in there somehow, then I'd say the Windies one; but you're right Zim, it's tough.

Btw, the answer to your signature question is Brighton v Man U, 1983 FA Cup Final, score 2-2, a couple of minutes to go and Smith (can't remember his first name, Gordon?) gets the ball about 8 yards out with only Gary Bailey (crap keeper) to beat. As the commentator says 'and Smith must score', but he hits it straight at Bailey who saves. The game finishes 2-2, with United winning the replay 4-0 (a younger Ray Wilkins scored 2 I think, one a lovely curler).
I think that's more or less right.

What about this one....
Wright picks up the ball, just inside the United half....

yeah, The Windies line up does lack a quality spinner, but if push comes to shove, I would prefer the Windies lineup. To me it looks more intimidating than the Aussie attack and it didn't really matter what the surface was like :o

Yes you are of course correct about my signature - it was indeed Gordon Smith, and the saying "and Smith must score" is the name of Brighton's most popular fanzine (I believe?)

As for your question, I am racking my brains but at the moment cannot think of anything. On the face of it I would guess that Wright is Ian Wright, and its tempting to think that Utd is of course referring to Man Utd, but I cannot be certain of either.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm :killa:

Well, Omari Banks looks a decent prospect, he was quite unfortunate not to have taken a dozen wickets at least and is more than capable with the bat. I reckon the Windies should wrap this guy in cotton wool and work on his bowling a bit more, if they can do that then he has the potential to be a great allrounder

thanks

It's not Banks. I think it's their fielding.

I think out of the how many hundreds of runs that were scored off him, maybe 30 were from bad deliveries, and thats small for a guy with only 2 tests under his belt. Over 200 was because of batsmen in superb knick and at least 60 were because of poor West Indies fielding.

He'd have maybe 25-odd wickets now if it wasn't for poor fielding, anyone who watched him bowl can easily and confidently say it's the poor support from his fielders.

As for his batting, he's as good as Devon Smith I reckon. Well maybe not, but he's more consistent. Hasn't score below 20 in all 4 innings I reckon. Not out in his last 2.

no sonic you misunderstood.

I was referring to the line ups I posted earlier on in this thread. (the Windies bowling attack from the 80's lacked a quality spinner)

As for present day, Banks does look an interesting prospect. Certainly seems to have the right temperament.

zim, but having all those fast bowlers they never needed a spinner then.. :plane:
