Highest Fourth Innings Totals

You're right S, why bother with a spinner when you've got that line up?
Btw, what was the batting line up in that team?
Haynes,Greenidge,Richards, then who? My memory escapes me. I know of course Clive Lloyd was skipper, Alvin Kallicharan (sp) keeper. Who batted 4 and 5?

A clue Zim to my question....think 1990 FA Cup Final.

Answer to yours; Alan Hansen. Team...Man U?

Lawrence Rowe and Hilary Gomes I think. West Indies never had a quality player in that position since Gary Sobers, after that little era I think Peter Dujon was the no.5 batsman, until Carl Hooper came into the side in 1987. there were a couple of others, Bacchus played a few tests as did Evertorn Mattis, but Gomes and Rowe were the "regulars" in that period I think.

thanks
sonic :ice:

Gomes rings a bell sonic, but I can't remember Rowe. Still, after following in King Viv I suppose whoever it was had a tough task!

Oh, and Richie Richardson aswell, but he came in just before Carl Hooper I think and batted at four, one ahead of Hooper (mid-late 80's)

what about Deryck Murray...no, no, he came in a bit later i think  Yeah, they didnt need spinners, the best bowling attack for me was in 1987, at the peak of malcolm marshall and when Courtney and Curtly were just breaking through, man that was a frightning bowling attack, definitely no need for spinners :D

thanks
sonic

Richie Richardson...another quality player. Man, those Windies have had some quality players  . And Brian Lara was still just a twinkle in the selectors eyes...

Well, the 1990 Final was between Palace and Man U

Ian Wright came on as a sub if memory serves me right, and scored 2 (?) goals as the first match ended in a draw.
Man U won the replay 1-0 (?)

However, I don't recall any commentary about Wrighty as you have mentioned Jonah. Unless someone else knows please reveal all.................

And yes of course you are right about Alan Hansen. He made the comment a few years back on Match of the Day about Man U :)

Well, I don't remember if the commentator actually said those words...I was just painting a picture to see if you'd pick it up.
You're right about everything though. The action I was talking about was Wrighty's first goal, when, soon after coming on as sub (recovered from a broken leg) he picked the ball up wide left, swerved inside one challenge, cut inside Pallister and left him on his arse, and tucked the ball inside Leighton's far post. A beauty. We were there at the time and the Palace end went berserk...he was such a cult hero.
The match finished 3-3.
Won't mention the replay though :( .

yes, I remember that goal, now you have described it :karind:

Did you go to the infamous semi against Liverpool. (the 4-3 thriller for those who don't know what I am talking about.) B)

Oh yes, what a game! We were there, exactly midway behind the dug-outs (couldn't get tickets for the Holt End, which was all-standing at the time).
It still is, and probably will always be, the best game I've ever been to . We were SO the underdogs (lost 9-0 earlier in the season to them, they had an allstar line-up inc. Hansen, McMahon,Houghton,Barnes,Beardsley and Rush), so to win was one thing, but to win such an exciting game was unbelievable.
Such a roller-coaster ride of emotions.
A-L super Al, super Alan Pardew!!

 Man, he was a very good player, working magic I see now with Reading. The Bournemouth team of 1990:

Vince Bartram, Shaun Teale, Luther Blissett, Keith Rowland, Jamie Redknapp, Joe Parkinson, Matthew Holmes, Russel Beardsmore, Jimmy Quinn, Mark Morris, Jimmy Case and Sean O'Driscoll

A quality line-up, in those days we were in division two (old) with Harry Redknapp in charge, then we got relegated, mounted a few debts, Harry ran off to West Ham and then Mel Machin was left to pick up the pieces.

Finest moment for me: the 3-0 win over Birmingham ( :D sorry Phil) in the 94-95 season that kept us safe from relegation - Ricky Otto et. al was in the Brum team in those heady days where Birmingham were in the 2nd Division (new)

Not that I have anything agaisnt Happy Harry cos he's given us some quality loan players down the years (Rio Ferdinand, Jermaine Defoe)...hopefully we will win the Play-Off final on Saturday

CHEER US ON GUYS !

Thanks

No, don't remember this at all - you must be making it up ;)

 The funniest thing I think was that us beating you kept you out of the play-offs - didn't it take your team of "stars" two seasons to get out of division two  :D

thanks
