Personally, I think noinating Monty as cricker of the year is an absolute joke. I would say he will have a good chance at emerging, but, yeah, he hasn't be THAT amazing. Anyway good luck to him and congrats.

Why am I not surprised we have only 1 New Zealand player? We are always overlooked. What about Peter Fulton? He is emerging and has played Fantastic this year in both ODI's and Tests. He should of been an instant onto the list. Asif, Tharanga or Monty will win. I would vote for Tharanga myself.

Cricket of the year - for me is Jaywardene no contest. Yousuf and Dravid wouldn't surprise me.

Test player - Yousuf.

One dayer - Bond. lol. Hey 1 nomination, lets make it count. Jaywardene will probably win. Maybe Hussey.

Captain - Jaywardene
Umpire - Taufel or Rudi.
Womens - I know nothing about, ill say the Kiwi chick :p.

I consider Panesar's inclusion in the Cricket of the Year section also a joke, just like Vaughan has been placed as Captain of the Year. He was most of the time injured in the period, which the cricket players are being reviewed on.

Also there will come a short list of the nominees before the real voting begins.

I wouldn't go as far as to say Panesar's inclusion is a joke! Think about it, he has bowled against the best players of spin in the world in Sri Lanka, Pakistan and India and has got out all the big names in those teams. He has bowled brilliantly in his short career and fully deserves to be on that list in my opinion.

Women of the year no idea really, Rolton sounds like the pick as usual. Captain of the year is a tricky one.

Now you've mentioned it I don't understand why Dhoni is there. He actually was on top of the ODI list, if I remember it right.

Even I found it baffling that Dhoni was not nominated. He was more successful than Gilchrist this year.
If 1000+ ODI runs at an avg of around 50 not enough to earn a nomination in the `Cricket Oscars` then what else is ??
What did S.Bond do to earn a nomination ?

I'm don't think Jayawardene has done enough to secure a spot over Ponting or Hussey for that matter.

Test Player of the year: Ricky Ponting, Michael Hussey or Mohammad Yousuf

Haha Monty for cricketers of the year :laugh

Cricketer of the Year: Flintoff
Test Player of the Year: Warne
One-day Player of the Year: Hussey
Emerging Player of the Year: Monty Panesar
Captain of the Year: Dravid
Umpire of the Year: Taufal

I'm surprised none of you haven't picked Flintoff.. he takes he same amount of wickets as most specialist bowlers ans scores loads of runs on top of it... and was captain in India, surely the hardest test.

Without really looking at the stats...

Cricketer of the year: Ricky Ponting

Test player of the year:
Muhammad Yousuf

One Day player of the year: I'll have to get back on that one. (No Dhoni? And what did Afridi do this year in ODIs?)

Emerging player of the year:
Mohammad Asif

Captain of the year: Toss up between Ponting and Jayawardane

Umpire of the year:
Taufel

Women's cricketer of the year: err...I'll have to get back on that.

Monty deserves to be up there as player of the year as much as Asif does, which is not at all.

Toss up between Ponting and Jayawardane

No offence to you but Ponting's captaincy isn't great at all, i'd rather have Fleming up tehre because he's a great captain.

Couldn't agree more about Dhoni.

About Bond, well he earned ODI player of the year nomination a hell of a lot more than Monty Panesar did! Heres his record from the nomination time frame:

18 matches, 36 wickets, best of 6/19, bowling average 18.11.

4 were against Zimbabwe, but the rest, Sri Lanka, South Africa India and West Indies, who arn't bad sides. Especially the first three. Heres one of his balls!

Brilliant!

I say he well and truly deserved it myself. It doesn;t surprise me that non-kiwi members had no idea about it and thats because we go totally unnoticed most of the time. lol
