So India were going along very nicely with the partnership between Sehwag and Jaffer growing as they begun to take the game away from the Pakistan bowling attack. Inzamam had to go on the defensive and begun to place sweepers on the off-side and leg-side. It was the fielder deep in the field who got the wicket.
Wasim Jaffer was on 30 and decided to speed up his innings. Afridi was the bowler and bowled it too short. Jaffer tried to square cut it for six (I know I lost concentration and Shoiab Akhtar took an easy catch. Jaffer was not at all pleased to have got out in such a soft way, but the partnership was broken. Could Pakistan cause a collapse?
Sehwag however did not look to be affected to have lost his batting partner and seemed to grow in confidence with Tendulkar batting with him. Sehwag quickly brought up his 50 and looked to be in very fine touch, with big shots all over the ground.
The Indian fans should not get too cocky however as a brilliant piece of work behind the stumps, by Kamran Akmal brought the next wicket. Tendulkar trying to go big was completley deceived by Danish Kaneria's spin. His big swipe seemed to unbalance him and he stumbled forward with his back foot just lifting up and Akmal quickly wiped of the bails. It took a few different angles by the third umpire but eventually Tendulkar had to go. He was very annoyed with himself.
Dravid had to face only five balls before the umpire called for lunch with India on 109/2. It had been a very good session for the Indian batsmen with Sehwag finishing on 53 Not Out. Dravid "The Wall" will hopefully be able to build his innings up nice and slowly and let Sehwag, the more agressive of the two, score the runs.
It was not quite such a good session for the Pakistano bowlers. There were many jeers from the crowd as Inzamam bowled the most overs going for 3.8 an over without ever seeming to trouble the batsmen. Akhtar had look dangerous with his pace but had not been given another spell with 20 overs of the session being bowled by spin. Rana Naveed has yet to make an appearance and the Pakistan fans will be hoping he will be getting a bowl this afternoon.
So at Lunch on Day 1, India are 109/2. Stay tuned to see if Kumble's men can build on the foundation set by the openers
Just saying that I am leaving the forums so won't be able to continue this story. Could a mod please close? thank you evryone in this forum for posting in my stories and for voting me SOTM in October, I might come back but not while the forum is like this.
Big wicket of Sachin just before lunch. India are in a good position at the moment. Sehwag showed that he is still performing in the test matches. Nice work mate
Lunch Time Analysis with Ian Botham, Nasser Hussain, David Gower and Bob Willis
So Lunch on Day 1. I feel that India have made a very positive start in this match with Sehwag and Jaffer playing well.
Yeah I would agree with you about that David. I think that Jaffer was extremely unlucky to get out when he did as he was looking to be in fine touch and a lapse in concentration cost him dear. I do however feel that the wicket of Tendulkar is very big.
Yes there was a bit of controversy about that decision. I feel it was out, however I know you don't agree Nasser.
No I don't think it should have been given. If we just have a look at the dismissal:
As you can see his left leg is not back however his right leg is blocked from view and to me it appears like it would have been back in the crease. I think that the Third Umpire should have considered this when making the decision and looked at a few other angles.
But Sachin is still at fault for not trying to get back into his crease fast enough.
Oh undoubtedly so he was foolish not to be aware of the danger and a man of his experience should know better.
I would also like to chip in here and comment on the Pakistani bowling. I am astonished at Inzamam's selfish captaincy. He has bowled himself for 10 wicketless overs and given away a fair few runs. Meanwhile Sami and Shoiab Akhtar who bowled really well at the beginning haven't had a bowl since. Questions need to be asked about whether he is suitable for the job.
Yes I was amazed when he came on after Sami had bowled just 3 overs which had been good. I think there will have to be questions asked about this and if he bowls much more in the afternoon session, I really think he should not be in a position of power.
I totally agree with you. So India are 109/2, where do you see this going?
Well India are in an excellent position here. The Pakistani's are all over the place and Sehwag looks to be in excellent form. With Dravid also at the crease I can see him making a big score. Pakistan are in a bit of trouble here.
So gentlemen who do you see winning this match?
India
India
India
Well that seems pretty conclusive that our experts up here feel that India should win this. The action is about to start again. We will have another analysis session at the end of the day. Enjoy the rest of the day's play
