More than our bowlers, I would blame our batsmen for taking this so close. The pitch was not offering anything much to the bowlers after the ball got 5-10 overs old. They really had to work for their wickets when the batsmen decided to dig in

Losing 3 wickets for 19 runs in the first innings and then 4 wkts for 4 runs by the tail in the second innings to atrocious shots was unacceptable on a slow but good wicket

I agree with this. I think the fields for Ashwin given by Kohli were quite rubbish!

Ashwin took 6 out of the 20 wickets needed to win a test match. What's with all the hate. I'll never understand it.

An overseas test as well. The only reason we could manage to contain them with just 4 bowlers is because Ashwin blocked one end up and made sure the fast bowlers could be rotated. With 3 genuine fast bowlers, I don't mind Ashwin giving me this 8 out of 10 times.

I think Ashwin bowled well but the pitch just didn't break down as much as maybe i was expecting it to. I think he still provided enough control from one end and also picked up those crucial wickets in the first inning. Hopefully he continues his form throughout the series.

I think Ashwin was fairly good, especially if you factor in his workload. 50+ overs out of 110 overs bowled. Thats a LOT of bowling, and still did not give too many loose deliveries or easy runs. I think if we want him to attack more, we need to get another bowler who can share the workload

Jadeja for Rohit anyone? I am sure Jadjea will be able to equal and probably better Rohit's contribution with the bat.

3 pacers and Ashwin is not enough on these kinds of wickets. This game could have easily gone the other way.

Which Indian fan here has the confidence that if we ever needed 50 runs to win and had 4 wickets in hand (Pant + bowlers), we would pull it off ?

I am confident we would lose 9 times out of 10 in an overseas match

Did we even chase down anything in the last decade in Overseas matches ?

Woke up to realize we won, sweetest win.

They got really close all thanks to the usual tailenders scoring good but I'd still say our bowlers did a very good job.

Lyon was gifted most of the wickets he got especially in the second innings while Ashwin worked hard for it. He did a fine job.

The pitch won't turn in the next match. No point in bringing in an extra spinner for a specialist batsman. Perth will have a lot more pace and bounce as compared to Adelaide provided it's a new venue and a new surface in Australia

Well, then Bhuvi can come in for Rohit. I am sure Bhuvi will also be able to contribute 30-35 runs on par with Rohit

Anyways, for Perth I am okay with going in with the same team and giving Rohit another 2 innings to prove himself. He is a good player of the short ball

I think if India can locate a genuine seam bowling all-rounder, that player could be plugged into Sharma's spot. Are there any in the domestic circuit? I wouldn't really consider Pandaya quite a good enough bowler at test level to consider him actually.

Excellent point. That's an oft overlooked point in cricket today with all the LO cricket going on. Holding one end is essential to winning test matches on difficult pitches.

Great test match. Congrats to India for a historic win at Australia.

The lower order of world teams.. Pakistan has lot to ponder to forget living in 90's era. Great fight by Australia. However disappointed with their approach

Nor a good enough batsmen at test level.

I honestly don't see any seam bowling AR in domestic. There was Rishi Dhawan who was good with his medium pace bowling couple of years ago, but I am no longer following him now. And there is Vijay Shankar but I don't think he is test material yet. I don't remember anyone else apart from Pandya who could walk into the team, unfortunately.

He can be someone we are looking for, but he needs time https://indianexpress.com/article/s...-dubey-stars-in-duel-role-for-mumbai-5432205/

A wonderful test match and yet again it was the lower order syndrome that gave us the scare. I see it baffling that people here are criticizing Ashwin, he has bowled 88 overs for 146 runs and 6 wickets out of the 20. I can see one comparing him to Lyon and he has taken more wicket but the wicket eased out more towards the end. This match was majorly won because of Pujara and his two wonderful innings. We need to keep pushing hard and practice harder in terms of batting. The bowlers yet again have taken 20 wickets and should just focus on cleaning the tail up quickly.

Also Shastri as a coach should go even though we won. I just read a piece of his interview where he said let the boys rest they DO NOT NEED net sessions... like seriously? For cricketers they are paid shit load of money and its their only job so get out there and give your best everytime you play. NO EXCUSES... its like me getting tired with my job and asking my boss for giving days off because I feel tired of the work that I am paid to do. bullshit

Imagine what a Steve Smith or David Warner in the side would have done in this test match. Not criticizing anyone in the Australian lineup, they played to their best potential and it was heartening to see Paine fight out as he did along with Shaun Marsh. Australia though do lack talent as I raised the point last year, team without Smith and Warner is at best a very mediocre team. There is no special talent in anyone. Again no offense to the existing players but they are just not that good as those two alone.

Also it could be the pitch but Starc did not seem as dangerous as he was in his pre-injury phase.
