I agree that 1st Test could have gone either way (at least until the first half of final day) but I would be very surprised if we will get more of it.

I'm not too much fussed about the loss too. I'm glad we didn't crumble in the 2nd innings. Usually when the opposition comes back strong with their response, we are accustomed to surrendering meeking the following innings. So batting wise we have something to look forward to.

The main concern is the bowling. I don't see us picking 20 wickets with this attack.

I think it's about luck. India has the kind of bowling attack that can take all 20 wickets — I mean, Bumrah, Siraj, and Thakur can do that if they show their class.

I'd say we showed our class for sure. Many, like me, were dreading a 120 all-out/ innings defeat within 3 days scenario. The batting delivered with the exception of Karun Nair and did pose a challenge. The 2 major pain points in the 1st test for us being:
A. Collapse
B. Erratic Bowling

Had we been able to reign these in, the match could have ended in a draw/ win

Repeating myself- it is more brawn over brain with the bowling setup. Take Boom out- yes, he didn't deliver in the 2nd innings, but we need the others to.So, take Boom out, you are left with brawny blokes who will steam in and deliver the ball. No though process whatsoever, no strategy, no tactics. Brawnyness has the ability to get wickets, we have seen Siraj steamroll Sri Lanka, but then again, not every team is Sri Lanka.

I doubt that he will hold on for long. Maybe, the shorter formats, but Test matches, I'd probably give him a year.
