MS Dhoni had won the toss by calling heads and he decided to bat first on a good looking batting pitch . The lineups were as follows :

Jayasuriya and Hayden opened batting for Chennai . Jayasuriya looked in great form as he smashed some 21 runs of the first over of Shane Bond . But then it was Akthar on fire in his second over . He first bowled Hayden and then plumed Dhoni the first ball . It was suddenly 21/2 . McCullum and Jayasuriya steadied the innings by a 58 runs partnership which included a lot of sixes and fours by both of the two players . But then Jayasuriya was given out lbw to Flintoff for 47 . McCullum departed soon for 25 . and now Chennai were 79/4 . Villiers and Watson put a small partnership including 5 fours . But Flintoff got rid of danger man Villiers who was caught by Broad for 20 and then soon watson departed for 8 runs of Hogg . Chennai were 107/6 . Maharoof departed as he was caught a t cover boundary by Broad of Flintoff for 12 . White and Malinga 38 runs partnership which included 3 huge sixes by White . But soon he bowled by Hafeez for 29 . Broad was out the first ball caught by Sangarkarra for 0 . Sharma and Malinga also put on a useful 22 runs partnership which took Chennai toward 179/9 at end of 20 overs .

Vincent and Vaughan started the Mohali innings on a high . Both looked to attack the bowlers and scored some important fours and sixex . But finally Broad got the breakthrough of Vincent for a well played and quick 39 . Broad in the same over bowled Mascarenhas for 4 runs . Maharoof got rid of Vaughan for 38 . Yuvraj Singh was the next one to go for 16 . he was caught by Villiers at long on and Braod got his 3rd wicket . Mohali were suddenly 100/4 . Flintoff and Sangarkkara werent able to get a partnership going . Flintoff was run out for 8 and Mohali were 113/5 . Raina departed soon for just 7 runs as he bowled by Braod and Mohali lost their 5th wicket for 120/5 . Hafeez was caught by Dhoni of Broad in his final over . Hafeez had to go back for just 8 runs and Moahli were 128/6 . Braod had got his 5th wicket of the match . He ended up with 5/49 in his 4 overs . Sangarkkara took the attacking mode as he smashed 30 runs of Maharoof's last over and suddenly the equation of the game had chnaged . Mohali were in the driving seat . But Cameron White struck as he saw the back of Sangarkkara for 36 of 10 balls . Mohali were 165/7 . And soon they lost the 8th wicket as Bond was caught by McCullum the first ball for a huge duck . Brad Hogg got 10 runs of Watson's first 2 balls but then he finished Hogg up with a slow delivery . And Chennai had defeated Mohali in a tight match by just 4 runs .

Stuart Broad was given the Man of the Match award for taking 5 wickets . Here are the points for the man of the series award

Chennai had won the match by just 4 runs . MS Dhoni and co looked very happy after their first win but Yuvraj and co looked dissapointed after losing a close match which they were suppose to win .
