I believe there is no reason for the IPL to be postponed or cancelled. It's going to be held in India mostly in April, where temps will start hitting 27C and above and thats when the virus starts ceasing to exist. And more and more people are coming out with information that the virus compromises people with vulnerable immune systems, and the elderly. And cricket in India is overwhelmingly watched by the youth or middle aged people in stadiums.

I think the tournament should happen fine. Maybe some dip in stadium attendance compared to previous years. But I still think it can easily happen.

People of any age can catch the virus but the majority of deaths are in the elderly or people with existing health conditions. I don't think anyone can conclusively say it will die down in warmer weather yet either.

It should be postponed, if things dont subside in a week or so. The majority of the crowd might not be having vulnerable immune systems, but even a couple of infected folks can cause it to spread dramatically in a stadium type of environment. Its not like folks will be sitting at arms length with each other.

Maharashtra govt has blocked ipl ticket sales and it seems BCCI is considering holding the games in empty stadium.

I will not mind postponing the IPL. Cricket is not greater then public safety. Also with no foreign players likely to attend the first half, IPL does not make much sense although its Indian Premier League.

The "playing in front of empty stadiums" is a bull crap idea!! I am not a big fan of it. I hear that it is better than postponing the league or cancelling it, but honestly, the lifeline of a sporting event is the on-field spectators and the environment that they create. It would be so weird and painful to watch teams playing games in front of an empty stadium. Just a few empty stands at the Chepauk made the CSK home games so uninteresting for so many years now. Imagine the entire stadium being empty for an IPL game.

I'd rather that they postpone the season altogether and then shorten it in a way that it fits the cricket calendar at sometime during the latter part of the year and then play it. This has been a mad crazy year and you'd need to have contingency plans for world disasters and not just say that "we need to keep earning our money no matter if the world falls apart".

Kane Richardson quarantined ... Arsenal players quarantined

really feel there is no point in holding the IPL in such times. It is just going to increase the risk, considering how many personnel are involved in making a cricket match happen even without crowds[DOUBLEPOST=1584071897][/DOUBLEPOST]Should cancel India v SAfrica too if they are wise

Given how drastically the spread has been everywhere, holding the IPL makes zero sense as I mentioned earlier. Postponing it is the only option right now.

Delhi government has said that there will be no IPL or any other sports event in Delhi amid COVID threat

Most other state governments will probably follow suit. Postponing is the only option really

So the IPL is now officially postponed till April 15th and the India vs South Africa series is called off (Source: Cricinfo)

Wonder how will the BCCI and the franchises work with this new environment. The tournament really has to be shrinked down in order for it to be done within the original stipulated date. This will force the people involved to find ways to run an IPL tournament in a shorter time frame. Good challenge for them and hope something good long-term comes out of this.

They could quite easily play double headers or at least two games a day. Travel might be difficult but if it was still behind closed doors they could limit the number of venues.

There were no double headers on Saturday this time so they can switch back to it. Atm it doesn't really make sense to have IPL.

All series around the world are either being postponed or called off. Looks like nature's finding a way of giving their overworked player bodies some well needed rest.

I have a feeling that cricketers around the world will come back well recharged after this 'forced break'.
