Indias best future captain.
This only includes players who are in the current India team- DO NOT suggest U-19 or India A/B players, Please.
I would have included more options but since the limit is 10 I have chosen Experience and a few players who look capable of leading.

can't see the poll as of now...but here's my choice - Mohammad Kaif...but not before the start of 2007...:p

If it was tomorrow, I'd go for Sehwag. Dravid would be second choice, as long as he doesn't try to keep wicket.

I agree with Mohammed Kaif, but in a couple of years time.

Kaif seems to be the hot favourite. I don't think Pathan is captain material IMO, he's a good player but i couldn't see him leading his country

I don't think any of the players on the current team apart from Ganguly are regarded as leadership material. This is because Ganguly has an aggressive leadership - the on field leadership skills may be different and not observable to the public eye. However, this just brings to point that no one is fitter to lead the side than Ganguly.

Dravid is a good captain but he doesn't really inspire confidence - at least not to the general public. Sehwag, judging by the way he plays, may be an over-aggressive captain. Besides, the last thing we want to do is affect his batting in anyway. We've finally found an opener in both forms of the game who can make or break the game for us.

Laxman and Kumble never seemed like leadership material and besides they are not a really happening future prospect seeing that they will probably retire after 2007 world cup or leave themselves to just test cricket. Irfan Pathan too is a great batsman and bowler but he doesn't look like he will be able to lead the team. Captaining a team is a very difficult one (in terms of skillsets - let alone the fact that 1 billion people evaluate your actions). You need to KNOW when and how to change the field, who to bowl, and all that other stuff. Apart from that you have to have an intrinsic feeling as to when to do something.

Hopefully Kaif or Yuvraj will blossom into a leading figure. Kaif seems to have the aggression and the responsibility to fit the job in a few years. Yuvraj definitely has leadership qualities, considering he is the 'fielding captain' of the Indian team. Yuvraj can also motivate the rest of the players exceptionally well. So basically this story is well up for debate, because in the public eye Ganguly seems like the best leadership figure.

Laxman - he has to first stabilise himself in the team. there are talk of him being considered for chopping.
Dravid - can be but i doubt if he would make a good captain. Captain needs aggression along with good mental thinking. He has the second but seems to lack the first (he makes a good vice captain along with Ganguly as the first and the second mingle!)
Yuvraj - Can also be a choice but he doesnt seem to be a cool head!
Sehwag - no way!! We do not want his batting to be affected. Already his batting clicks one day and breaks another day!
Kumble - many thought he would be a good captain but its too late for him
Irfan - NO!!! Who selected him in the poll??

My choice goes to Mohammed Kaif!! He is a good finisher and that shows he has a cool head at times of pressure!! He has captained India U-19 to victory..

i vote for KAif too, my second choice whould be dravid

Yes,Kaif .He won the u-19 wc for India

Why would you pick kaif as a captain when there is more experinced player's Like dravid who are eager to captain the indian side.Kaif is talented but He is not sort of a player that can captain a good team.

Being a captain of a side does effect your career stats.for example michel vaughan who captained the england side and has been plumb with his batting and ganguly who has been a good player for india through out the years since he became a captain was plumb with his batting.

Kaif is still young and has alot to learn in the future.A good choice is rahul dravid. He captained the indian side in few occasions and he has been succesfull and won few big matches.I would go with rahul dravid rather then kaif.

Sourav Ganguly is 32 Rahul Dravid is 31, I don't think they'd give the captaincy to someone who's only going to be captain for 2 years tops if Ganguly retires

Yeah but rahul dravid has alot left on him.He can surely play international cricket for 6 years more.Tell 2007 he can be the captain or may be if he did'nt do a good job as a captain in his first year he could be replaced by kaif.

Inzimam_ul_haq was on his 30 when he became captain of the pakistani side.I dont see anything wrong with that squiz And i must say few people should agree with me in this ocassion.

I agree that Rahul Dravid should be captain, but if Ganguly retires then it will only leave a couple of year for him to lead his side, it'd be best to get someone like Kaif who has a few years left in him.

Edit: Oh BTW, Dravid turned 32 a few days ago

I like the say happy birthday to the wall.
