As far as the players go, I think it's utterly rediculous how Eoin Morgan is playing for England now. It shouldn't be allowed for players to 'Country hop'. If you make your debut with one Country you shouldn't be allowed to play for any other. It's more common sense than anything.

That's why Ireland are suffering, It's treated as a stepping stone. Players of the likes of Morgan all play for Ireland because they aren't good enough for England, Then as soon as they get recognized, they ditch Ireland and play for England. Ireland isn't even taken that seriousley in my opinion. Just look at the T20 WC squad. Sure, 8 Irish, but then 3 Aussies, 2 Kiwis and a Saffer.

Will they struggle any more than Bangladesh with their current line up? It would be interesting to see a Test match between Ireland and Bangladesh with Morgan and Joyce.

If Ireland have Morgan and Joyce they would challange teams more than Bangladesh because they would have 2 top quality batsman in their team, as well as Porterfield who is doing very well at county level. Where as Bangladesh don't have that.

True? What a shame. So if you're British you can just swap between Ireland, England and Scotland?

Also, Ireland wouldn't even be the strongest side in the County Championship if they got in, so why give them Test status? Why aren't Durham CCC being put forward for Test status? They'd probably perform better than Ireland.

It's a bit hard to draw that comparison when the county teams can afford to recruit from halfway around the world. Nevertheless, it highlights the key difference. The economics of the Irish cricket system are far below any major county cricket club. Playing against the counties can be pointless for both Ireland and Scotland because the players often have to chose what pays more, the cricket or the day job. Getting a county contract would still be the goal for young Irishmen, because they'd get to play cricket and get paid, but they could do that whether Ireland play first class cricket or not.

No progress will be made on the issue until Ireland are given test status. Until then, players are only going to use the Irish team as a gateway to the English team and we can't blame them for it.

So I take it you don't agree that Dirk Nannes should ever play for Australia? Lets just say he does get picked, you woud be completely against it?

Why if cricket is their passion and they get picked for England should they say no? I'm sure they have a choice as to wether or not to play for England it's not as if they just are forced to play, if they wanted to play for Ireland so bad they could just say no.
