Is it a boon or a curse ? I really doubt the ICC are going to give them any games till 2009.They might play in the ICC Champions Trophy in Pak,but i feel that they should be included in the Twenty20 WC.
Well,i kinda support the move;they deserve it no doubt, but are they going to get enough games is the main question.Just have a look at Kenya, how many top sides did the semi-finalists of WC 2003 play after that ?

What are your views on it ?

It's pretty pointless really, the fact that these teams are ranked does not mean that they will get to play more matches against full members so Ireland and Kenya are likely to remain rooted to the foot of the table until that changes.

Well, it's good for the Irish but after being bowled out for 77 today, I doubt the ICC will give them any games for a few years. They are an average team at best who caught Pakistan on a bad day.

I can't really see the Australians/South Africans/Kiwis traveling all the way to the Northern Hemisphere for a ODI match against Ireland anytime soon.

They beat two Test playing nations in the World Cup (that's more than England could manage btw) so they deserve to be in the rankings.

Tri series with England For the Win.
Ireland could easily participate in at least one of the two ODI series we have over in England once a year, their travel isn't expensive or too far, and they get to play test sides. Thats my opinion anyway.

Ireland has played an excellent cricket in this world cup , their hard work has paid off , so they deserve it . Congrats to Ireland :clap

Yuo know, its unfair that they have to sit out for the inaguaral Twenty-20 World Cup.They deserve to be in their, stupid ICC.

They finished fifth in the qualifying tournament, so why do they deserve to be there?

The icc are still organizing games for them, they'll play windies and netherlands and they'll get more games than kenya after 2003 wc, why because the reason icc gave odi status to 5 other teams other than kenya was because kenya didn't get enough games against the top teams. Now that there are 6 associate teams they'll get more games and they will get some games against the top sides as well. Teams touring England will give ireland a game here and there. And I think that's the way to go. It should happen with all top 6 associate teams tbh.

Canada and Bermuda goes to WI and plays teams touring WI instead of club teams that the touring teams play as warm ups.

Ireland, Scotland and Netherlands goes to England ad plays teams touring England as their warm ups for the tour.

Kenya goes to zimbabwe and south africa to play teams touring there.

This things just needs to be organized by the respective boards. And the icc will organize associate tournaments along the way. All the teams below test status now gets to play double the amount of games they played before.

Wrong, two bad games will not overshadow the competitive performance they put out through out the whole tournament. These teams might not go there solely to play ireland but they'll go there to play england and could give ireland scotland, netherland etc a game here and there. Plus the icc is giving them games. People should look into the associates before making comments. the irish have a lot of games planned for them. just for the record they'll be playing in the final of the intercontinental cup(first class tournament for the associates). this is the 2nd time in a row they are in the final of it.

Regardless of the result, their team is hardly a twenty20 team, they have more nurdlers and gutsy batsman than sloggers. They lack good death bowlers as well.

sloggers needed, you can't just slog and get runs, you have to play cricket shots. But point ins the world cricket league was the qualifier for the 20/20 wc which ireland did reach the finals in, although you have to note that those matches were really close and just didn't go their way.

what its pointless, so what they beat Pak and Bangladesh, luck does come in the game sometimes otherwise cricket wont be cricket... thats pointless.. i bet Pak will win 9/10 of games v Ireland maybe even 10 if you keep playin matches

to call ireland got lucky is wrong there and you're ignoring the fact that they have been playing good cricket through out the tournament bar two games. Also it's not a big deal that you're making they already had odi status but now they are on the main rankings. It's not pointless because they were set criteria to be there and they met it, the criteria to be on the main table is to have played at least 10 odi's and then beat 2 test nations or beat one and have over 60% win % over the other associates. It may be pointless in terms of are they going to get games just because of that? no, but it's not pointless in terms of expanding and ireland is good sign of that.

One game doesn't fully justify whether a team is up to international standards or not. Yes they did get a mauling from Australia and Sri Lanka but both times it was because they batted first and probably had worse of the conditions. Also Australia and Sri Lanka are two of the better teams in the WC and in ODI in general.

Well most international teams will play Ireland as a tour match I guess when they tour England. Perhaps the ECB can arrange something where they bring back the Natwest series with England, Ireland and a touring team.

Its a joke that Kenya didn't even attain test status after that whereas Bangladesh got it so quickly.
