It's just not cricket

Yea make a three week window, simple. Oh and if the BCCI/IPL wan't the IPL to go longer play it during India's cricket season (When teams are toruing India) let's see if they like having player's wanting to play in the IPL over India.

That will happen eventually.........why dont we wait see what happens rather then jumping up and down like lunatics?;)

The IPC. THE worst idea in the history of our sport.

Notice a trend in this thread? Only Indians or Indian supporters defending it?

Several English writers on Cricinfo loved it. They even had a whole section dedicated to the IPL during it (IPL Page 2). Are you now saying Cricinfo is run by Indians?

Cricinfo is run by Americans, in America. All Americans want is Twenty20 because it's short, like Baseball.

Its same if you look from other side. Non Indians arguing it.

IPL is not even on now. Why are you so worked up?

Probably because I've been bottling it up, and I'm in a really shitty mood lately...I'm not normal at the moment...people who know me closely would realize this, however, people over the internet wouldn't know.

I reckon they should reduce the amount of matches. Two groups, each teams plays every team in their group twice, home and away. Then Semi's and a final.

Its literally impossible to reduce matches, and the format you mentioned is almost exactly how its running.

Seriously, who cares if the Indians like it, it's their domestic Twenty20 league. It's like the Indians complaining to us how are KFC Twenty20 Big Bash isn't entertaining.

IMO, it has been completely over done and overrated. The fact that it is only twenty overs means the difference skill in between teams is narrowed. You could have a completely all start team, but all things considered, they'll only make like 15 off 7 balls, or 40 off 20. Totally defeats the purpose of actually buying the stars when absolutely anyone can do what they're doing. If it was a FC or 50 over comp, the players could actually provide something mroe substantial.

Having said it, it's their competition, their league. If we don't like it, don't watch it.

I agree. How is Brett Lee worth $750000 or whatever he was being payed to play a few matches where he bowls 4 overs? It's ridiculous amounts of money that they don't deserve. A domestic league doesn't have so many internationals and overseas players, Australian states might get 1, 2 max, if any at all, players to represent them in the season - then, it's in FC and ODI, plus when the Twenty20 competition comes along, they participate in that too, if it fits in with their timing.

Having said it, it's their competition, their league. If we don't like it, don't watch it.

Which is exactly what I do. I am proud to say that I haven't watched a single game from the second season, and I watched 1 game (McCullum's overrated hack where he made 158), which put me to sleep.

Twenty20 puts me to sleep, and Test cricket doesn't. Yet Twenty20 is entertainment, and Test cricket it boring?

We have started to sign international players for the KFC Big Bash haven't we, if that turns into another IPL-ish tournament, which I think it might with all these new signings, then I'll stop watching it. Hard enough watching Gul or McCullum play.

It should be a training ground for our talent really. We're already down with numbers for true T20 players.

Why would you want to breed "true T20" players...

Punk Sk8r! added 5 Minutes and 35 Seconds later...

Sohum all the way! He has been giving the right facts.

5 day cricket is so great right, ODI's are so great right? Then dont they have the power to keep their flag flying inspite of the onslaught of T20 cricket (or what you call, the IPL). Its our (Indian) domestic tournament. We do whatever we want (add Bollywood glamour to it, dancing, etc). We are not going to each and every country and begging them to come and play in our tournament. The ICC let us exist because its a domestic competition. Just as county cricket attracts overseas players, we attract too. And they came in hordes seeing the money. Now blame the players who bought into the money.

The way other country fans are talking about how the IPL has been a waste of time and is not cricket, it seems to have really made them jealous of its sucess (or else, why would they be talking about it?). The IPL is here to stay. Police your own players, police your own board. The IPL is not going anywhere!

Dumbest....post....ever.

@ thread Starter:-
Yep, I do agree that its money making/grabbing. And I too agree that its a copy of Indian Cricket League.
But, the young, domestic players have a great opportunity to show their skills against the international players.
Consider Pragyan Ojha.
Before IPL, no one knew him. Even I too saw him some times roaming on roads.
But after the IPL 1.0, he was given some kinda respect which means his talent got exposed. (Which before IPL, it wasn't)
Then he got selected to Indian team.(which he never expected)
Not only Ojha, many cricketers like M.Gony, D.Kulkarni, A.Mishra etc etc got some exposure.
And now, the situation is in such a way that we can have three main teams.

Having said it, it's their competition, their league. If we don't like it, don't watch it.

Yea except for the fact that the IPL has the potential to draw top line international players away from test cricket.

It may surprise you but different people will like different things.
