I quite like my suggestion for text based match screen's. Obviously it would only be a starter but it would still create that sense of tension, I remember back in the day I would get so nervous in situations like I mentioned, it was amazing!

I like the text based idea too. Imagine what last overs in ODIs would be like? You'd be wetting yourself with excitement and then weeping over the fact that you were tanned off for 6 on the last ball.
