Simon Katich and Kevin Pietersen are in doubt for the third and final one-day international of the ICC Super Series in Melbourne on October 9. Glenn McGrath, who was rested for the second game, is expected to return to the Australian team.
Katich, who made a composed 47 in a 110-run opening stand with Adam Gilchrist, strained his groin during his innings. Pietersen strained his thigh after pulling up sharply while fielding at long-on during the second match and used a runner while batting.
"He [Pietersen] had a scan today and has a minor strain," John Wright, the World XI coach, was quoted as saying by ABC Sport. "He'll be reassessed tomorrow [Sunday]."
Pietersen is not part of the World XI Test squad for the Super Test which begins in Sydney on October 14. However, he is an integral part of England's squad for their tour of Pakistan later this month.
