But you see 4 teams would qualify in the next round, they have a good chance of going around Zimbabwe and Canada, and one upset here and there (like India and Pakistan in 2007 ) could repeat the history, they have been world cup semi-finalist once.

By that logic ,Sri Lanka should thank West Indies and Australia for the 1996 World Cup victory. Those two nations forfeited their matches in SRL which led to SRL being crowned World Champions ultimately.
