Your Cricket Knocking a new bat

Can someone give me some tips on knocking a new bat? Does the first process (oiling) require a special type of oil?

Linseed oil , give it a couple of coats over the course of 2-3 days and leave it to dry. Then knock in with a mallet/ball in a sock for a while. Best then to start with it in the nets with old balls.
