Had my first game since the 5fer on Sunday. We bowled first on a very strange, proper Club cricket deck. Was damp and green, meaning the odd ball would shoot up off a length and rise upto shoulder height, and the next would pitch and roll. We started ok, but our experienced opener kept pitching short early on and got hit for a few fours. We struggled to take wickets, but kept the runs down.
I came onto bowl about 14/15 overs in, and it took me a while to get my line right, having not bowled for about 3 weeks, but once I'd got going I was starting to stop runs and make chances. Once we finally got the first wicket, we had an end open, and I started work on their number 3. I had him edge behind to slip quite early on, but had the chance dropped. I continued running in and following through nice and far giving the lad a nice Flintoff-esque stare :laugh
I did eventually get him out, he tried to hit out at me and ended up just lobbing a catch to mid off. I then picked up my 2nd wicket a couple overs on, and as I got through my overs my action and consistency came back, really keeping the runs tight by my 10th and final over. Think my last 3 overs went for 3 runs. I ended my spell and work for the day with 10 overs, 2 maidens, 2/25, boosting my season tally to 13 wickets at 15, with 11 at 14 for the B Team.
Then we came down to chasing 122 and it didn't exactly start brilliantly. We were 14/3 after 10 overs, and it took a superb innings of 56* from our #5 to win us the game. I batted 7 and felt completely out of nick, but managed to scrap around and make a handy 9, even running a 3 with a groin strain, not easy. We managed to win with 2 wickets in hand, with 1 ball left. Good result.
