Your Cricket KP's Season Diary

Sounds as if your managing to do pretty well! You playing 1's or 2's?

Had another game today for the B Team, and for a change we won :D I had a particularly nice game. We fielded first and bowled and fielded well, bowling them out for 106. I bowled 5.3 overs with 1 maiden taking 2-15. I also managed to get a run out from fine leg. The delivery beat the keeper, I ran round picked up one handed and threw down middle stump

Our openers then put on 27 for the 1st wicket but then we had a collapse, and I came in at 8 with the score at 68/6. I then put on a really nice partnership with our 13 year old star, before he got out, leaving it to me and another young'un to knock off the runs. I smacked their opening bowler straight back over his head twice for boundaries, and square drove him for 4 as well :D Ended with 22*, boosting my average in league cricket to 59 and making me the leading run scorer for the B Team. Niiice.

At the end of the game the captain of the other side came upto me, having chirped me all innings and told me I should be opening =] Said I've got the technique and the shots to be a decent opener. Maybe I'll move to their club if I'm still batting 8 next week :p

Ah, I was told of your exploits today. You bowl left-arm Chinaman don't you? Our side were telling us how you were unplayable, one ball was turning a mile and then the next would go straight on and get you an LBW. Nice work! That was our 'Saturday' XI as well, used to be called the 1st XI. I was actually asked to play that game, but couldn't make it. Maybe you'll be able to give me a good beating at some point! ;)

I played today. Bowled very well, took 5/61 off 10 with 1 maiden. Took out one of the openers and also their number 3 LBW, he made 50. Then I managed to mop up the tail with a nice bit of swing and was on a hat-trick at one point. The batting didn't go quite so well. Batted 8, came in with 6 overs to go needing about 90 to win, so was encouraged to try and play my shots. First ball was short, so I went back to cut, the ball barely got off the floor and bowled me. Nice, golden duck, that's ruined my average :p

Nice game freddiw and good bowling Dan as well. Always good to get a 5fer. Congrats. Shame you couldn't get some quick runs though.

Had my first game since the 5fer on Sunday. We bowled first on a very strange, proper Club cricket deck. Was damp and green, meaning the odd ball would shoot up off a length and rise upto shoulder height, and the next would pitch and roll. We started ok, but our experienced opener kept pitching short early on and got hit for a few fours. We struggled to take wickets, but kept the runs down.

I came onto bowl about 14/15 overs in, and it took me a while to get my line right, having not bowled for about 3 weeks, but once I'd got going I was starting to stop runs and make chances. Once we finally got the first wicket, we had an end open, and I started work on their number 3. I had him edge behind to slip quite early on, but had the chance dropped. I continued running in and following through nice and far giving the lad a nice Flintoff-esque stare :laugh

I did eventually get him out, he tried to hit out at me and ended up just lobbing a catch to mid off. I then picked up my 2nd wicket a couple overs on, and as I got through my overs my action and consistency came back, really keeping the runs tight by my 10th and final over. Think my last 3 overs went for 3 runs. I ended my spell and work for the day with 10 overs, 2 maidens, 2/25, boosting my season tally to 13 wickets at 15, with 11 at 14 for the B Team. :D

Then we came down to chasing 122 and it didn't exactly start brilliantly. We were 14/3 after 10 overs, and it took a superb innings of 56* from our #5 to win us the game. I batted 7 and felt completely out of nick, but managed to scrap around and make a handy 9, even running a 3 with a groin strain, not easy. We managed to win with 2 wickets in hand, with 1 ball left. Good result.

Stradbroke's pitch is crap. Played there yesterday, batting @ 9, we were 108-7 after 22, I went in and hit 43 before dollying one to point. We finished on 202, won by 28 runs.

It is abit of a shocker isn't it. The drainage is awful, so all the rain we've had has just seeped into the square and had nowhere to go. I think I've experienced a Stradbroke pitch with pace once in 3 years :laugh

Had abit of a shocker myself at the weekend. Bowled 3 overs for 35, 3rd over was the best of the lot, got fired up, sprinted in and tried to bowl as fast as possible. Bowled a vicious bouncer 2nd or 3rd ball of the over which hit the lad on the shoulder, and the over had gone for 2 before the last ball didn't get up, and was spanked for 4. One of their openers made 145*, his 2nd score of over 140 in 2 weeks, he was good. Then got a 6th ball duck with the bat, thin edging behind.

They had put some crap filler right on middle stump just outside the crease. So I had to bat out to the seamers, but of course when the spinner came on I had all kinds of trouble. Car-parked him though ;)
