Lalit Modi: IPL to innovate- Specialist Fielders, Pink Ball !

How many rules can they change before its not considered 2020 under ICC standards? I mean eventually the ICC will have to take away 2020 status from these matches if they go overboard with rules and regulations that are not within the confines of the MCC guidelines.
Yea, I agree with that. It's fine Lalit Modi is doing whatever he wants with his league, but too many innovations and this won't even be T20 anymore.

I prefer something like this:
After a bowler bowls 3 overs, he should be given rest and some other substitute should get in.
Management is not allowing all the contracted players to play.
Eg. Abhinav Kumar, who represented the Chargers.
He was selected in the DC squad last Feb. But he made his debut a month ago (in CLT20) and that too for the terrific form he showed in HCA cup.
It makes all people play cricket and satisfy them as they're taking money as they did some work.
Even one more rule like each keeper should keep 10 overs each.
That makes rookie keepers like Bisla, Goswami, etc etc get some experience with international level tournament.
I think Goswami kept for RCB only once (IINW).

Modi is a greedy bitch but all of us know the man knows how to innovate. Pink balls might be used in 2 years in D/N Tests and you'll have nobody but Modi to thank for.

that is well dodgey. So Ponting could not do what he did last year and take a break?

that's stupid. If anything I would like to see all cricketers with hectic schedules skip the tournament, it would make way for other players to get a look in and make a name for themselves and preserve the best players for the most important fixtures.

Yeah wasn't the the IPL's supposed original plan :sarcasm to keep on bringing young Indian's to the spot-light? Oh wait, hang on. Looks like some people forgot what a little bastard Modi is.

Just goes to show that the only attraction of the IPL is the non "I" part. The internationals from other countries.

Its a case of "if you sign up for a contract, honor it fully unless there are a few exceptions (national duty)". I am not sure if its possible to sign the contract for just the next IPL. If its not, then the international cricketers have the right to take it up with the IPL. But otherwise, I dont find anything wrong in this new rule. A franchise signs up a player and makes plans for their season with him in mind, and suddenly he doesnt turn up because he doesnt want to play and wants to preserve himself for national duty, and all that. If he has national duty, its ok. But this "preserving himself for national duty" is not agreeable. He should not sign up the contract if he wants to do all those things.

Modi is a greedy bitch but all of us know the man knows how to innovate. Pink balls might be used in 2 years in D/N Tests and you'll have nobody but Modi to thank for.
That too is more stunt than philanthropy. Of course, D/N Tests definitely weren't his idea, nor was the pink ball, but this "testing" seems hardly useful. The balls have already been used at more meaningful levels of cricket than domestic T20 practice matches. As the chief concern is the durability and longevity of the ball, I can't see any new information coming from their testing, unless they're prepared to run the same ball through multiple innings.

^ What he said, the pink balls have been trialled in much longer versions of cricket already. Nothing new we can learn from them apart from how they fair in Indian conditions.

ahahahah how come I dont see you pro Lalit Modi and pro IPL people posting stories like this.

IPL revises terms for overseas players | Cricket News | Indian Premier League 2010 | Cricinfo.com

Yeah. Coz all that some guys do is keep on ranting and raving and force threads to be closed. I wanted to save the mods the effort :clap

And what wrong has he said? Why would a franchise, that spends millions on a player, want him to go and play for his home domestic team when he suddenly wakes up one day realizing, "Oh, I can use the IPL to make all the money I want to. But I think my allegiance lies with my domestic club"? This is NOT the way a professional contract and a professional works. If you don't want to play by the rules and contracts, don't play in the IPL. You want to earn money as a player, fair enough. Atleast gracefully honour your contract! You can't be walking in according to your preferences and out of the squad, when the team, which payed you an average of $300,000 needs you.

You can't, as some people here have been suggesting, play in a league which is paying millions to you for a bloody 40 day job and yet not get stick for not showing up for work. It is preposterous ! :doh

Lets not forget, IPL franchises LOSE >$200,000 for securing the services of a player who plays for multiple teams while non-IPL teams DON'T PAY A FIG ! That is UNFAIR to the IPL franchises !

I don't see anyone talking about this. Now why is that so? :sarcasm

As for the national boards, when they get a cut, its "okay". When the players get paid, the boards say its "not possible for us to grant an NOC coz we are busy qualifying for the CL T20" (which is also Modi's brainchild). Gee, this is downright hypocrisy.

And for the record, You DON'T have any rights to vilify a man for running HIS league the way HE wants to ! He is completely justified with his rules for the new season, just like England & South Africa are COMPLETELY JUSTIFIED in doing away with the 50 over format at the domestic level to make a quick buck :clap.

All IPL/Lalit Modi haters... Please refrain from making unnecessary comments if you are, as you say, least bothered about IPL. Pick a stance and stick to it. :)

Or just not post any news that would make the IPL look bad.

A players allegiance is with his domestic club. Its from where a player gets selected for the national team if he puts in a good performance. Nobody is getting selected to the national test team based on a good 20/20 performance.

And what if that player is sitting on the bench for the entire IPL while he could be playing cricket elsewhere. In order to please the crowds teams in the IPL play the "favorite players" instead of the best or better players.

As far as I am aware you don't get paid if you don't play. If you get signed by a team and you play half the season in the IPL but play the other half in your domestic competition you don't get paid your full contract.

As for the national boards, when they get a cut, its "okay". When the players get paid, the boards say its "not possible for us to grant an NOC coz we are busy qualifying for the CL T20" (which is also Modi's brainchild). Gee, this is downright hypocrisy.

that just made no sense at all but whatever.

O but you have the right to put him up there right next to God, Sachin and the top of the game of cricket.
I'm not trying to vilify the dude but I'm pointing out something he is doing that isn't good for the game of cricket or for the relations of the cricket boards towards the IPL.

just like England & South Africa are COMPLETELY JUSTIFIED in doing away with the 50 over format at the domestic level to make a quick buck :clap.
You are forgetting one thing, England and South Africa do it as a part of their domestic competition not a off shoot cricket league that is focused on just making money. Comparing England and Safers domestic limited overs competitions with the IPL is just clutching for straws. They arent even closely related or relevant to each other.

I can make whatever comments I feel like making. Same way you are allowed to post everything about Modi, so can I. We are posting about the same man after all.

And don't take it so personal when I'm talking about Modi and his league, unless your him :spy. Its a topic to discuss nothing to pull your hair out for.
