Leg-Spin Bowling

lolzz.well some can learn by watching and some have to be shown step by step.

i dont think i should post this here but did u know that Hanumant Singh fielded as a substitute for both India and England in the second Test of the 1961-62 series held at Green Park, Kanpur.

I just copied Warne's leggie, the googly comes natrually to me- I once thought i could be a wrist spinning off spinner!

Same with me Zorax. The googly comes naturally to me.Incidentally, when I bowl off-spin,I am actually bowling a googly!

What I know of the flipper is that you squeeze it out with your thumb, like a clicking action, so that it skids rather than bounces and also because of this skidding movement you need to bowl it faster. I believe Richie Benaud says it took four years before he had a flipper he was confident he could use in matches.
I don't know if it is because of this incredible difficulty, but I can't remember the last time I saw someone dismissed by the flipper.

Mate did you see the 1997(I think) ashes.Warnie bowled the best over I have ever seen.He was bowling to Alec Stewart. After a number of confusing deliveries,he finally bowled a flipper which went like a rocket.Stewart misread it and was out.

Warne has got many batsmen out with a flipper.

Like I said I can't remember the last time. 7 years illustrates my point. Mainly, what I mean is that I'm not sure if any leg spinners are still carrying really potent flippers anymore. Maybe I'm just not paying enough attention.

Yep I learned leg-spin and off-spin bowling on my own, too. In fact I learnt it playing with my gardener in Indonesia. Haha. Well off-spin's pretty straightforward. Anyone can make the ball off-spin. That is why I don't bowl off-spin that much because I need variation of some sort which I don't have. As for leg-spin I can bowl a decent leg-spinner and a googly. My accuracy with the googly is near perfect but the leg break still loops up in the air and I can't really control it to well. Haha. But it spins nicely.

I roll the leg break off my middle and ring finger, I think. And googly I just hold on to the ball a little later and release it from the back of the hand so that it grips the pitch. I've never played with a seamed ball, though, so I cannot tell you of those variations.

Doubt anyone uses this method for a leg-spinner, but I use my thumb and my wrist to get spin on the ball. So I have my thumb along the seam. When I release it I flick my thumb on it and flick the wrist, get good spin with this grip, when I get it right. I can bowl the googly too but not actually sure how I do it! Shame I can't bowl it accurately, so I stick to what I do best, which is hitting people on their toes! :D

If you want to be a leg spinner you have to use your wrist to perfection.Bowling leg spinners arent easy the length and the line has to be perfect other wise you will go for alot of runs. For example bowling around the wicket would help you get wickets but in this case if you just bowl slicely in the off stump you can easily be cheap away for four throw off side.I bowl alot of leg spinners these days and when i make a mistake i get hit for fours.

SO if any of you guys want to be a leg spinner first work hard in your length and line of the ball then move on to bowling flippers and spinning the bowl throw different directions.I hope this helps.

I dont know how you bowl leg spinners with your thumb. You have to use your index finger.Puting the bowl between two of your fingers helps you spin the bowl(from both ways meaning it could either turn left or right)You get the batsman confused just like warnie do.Danish kenaria has been succesfull doing that againts australia. It helps you take more wickets in test matches.

I have been bolwing Leg Spin for roughly 1 and half years and now i am at the stage in which i can turn the ball and mislead the batsmen. Being winter in England i attend net practice thursday nights and roughly get around 1 hours bowling. I roughly get around 5 wickets but some are batsmen errors. I cannot bowl the googly (i can but its terrible) but i do have different balls such as where i rotate my wrist more than usual which makes the ball skid on to the batsmen and a simple delivery in which i simply spin the ball with the seam spining scrambled which usually makes the ball either spin more than usual or not spin depending on where it hits the ball when it pitches.

I'm not a normal leg-spin bowler, i'm a seam bowler, and if that doesn't work in a match I bowl off-spinners. Its just something I like to try in the nets and to me, its easier to bowl, I just can't get the hang of bowling it with the correct grip. I guess it's whatever you're happy with and i'm happy with the grip I use.
