Madeleine McCann Thread

No, this proves that you should stop arguing with Simbazz that neglect means that and neglect means that! I have stated what Simbazz said in his post which is referred to child neglect and what you and evertonfan are saying is normal neglect!

We are not arguing, we are discussing.

It is both really because 3 year olds are not going to get themselves drinks etc. That means they were not being physically cared for which means it is both.

good point.

Obviously, since nothing that important happened.

Whilst I agree that it was perhaps irresponsible of them to leave her (and siblings) unsupervised in a first floor unlocked apartment, just think what you would have done if you were in that position?

People with children make decisions with regards to their safety everyday, sometimes these decisions have a higher element of risk attached than others and sadly in some cases the risk becomes an incident.

In this case I'm sure the MaCann's weighed up the risks and thought that things would be ok. Whose to say that if they had been in the apartment she still wouldn't have gone missing? It only takes a second to snatch a child and it's not unheard for would be abductors/attackers to break into houses that they know to be fully occupied just to get to their target.

Lets save the inquest for afterwards (once what has happened to the child is known).

1. I wouldn't have gone out in the first place

2. If their is any risk it is wrong to do.

3. We can speculate as much as we like.

1) So, you would go on Holiday just to stay indoors?

2) There is a risk in everything we do not matter how careful we are

And also can you remeber exactly what happened to you when you were 3 or 4? I think not, when/ if Maddy is found, in a couple of years she won't even remember what happened, so that isn't really an issue, unless she brings physical scars away from this.

I would beg to differ on the fact that just because she's young she'll suffer little or no after effects.

I'm guessing that nothing that could be classed as a massive trauma happened to you during these years? I'm sure that if something as dramatic as being snatched from your parents had occurred then it would leave its mark.

She may not remember blow for blow but in all likelihood she'll be left with a distrust of strangers and maybe a need for emotional closeness from those few people that she feels able to trust. Let's not even go into what a mess she could be sexual abuse is added to the equation.

1) If you are planning to go on the piss, dont take your kids as it isnt a suitable place.

2) Leaving your kids in an unlocked hotel room is too high a risk to think it possible to take.

Do you have children, I'm guessing not. It's so easy to judge others when you're not that position.

As for your comment about risk, everything involves some element of risk. How many time have you crossed the road this week, sat inside a moving vehicle, walked up the stairs etc. Being a good a parent is all about making a judgement call and in doing so, what seems reasonable to one will horrify others.

I can remember little things from when i was very young such as playing with toys, etc and that is nothing special so of course she will remember a trauma like this and I'm surprised you can't remember something like that when you were 6.

Then maybe it wasn't a big enough trauma or maybe you have extremely thick skin. Remember that just because something affects you in one way it's doesn't mean that it will affect everybody else in the same way.

Risks come in different packages, for example going at 200mph in your car is a bigger risk than cutting a loaf of bread.

Madeleine McCann's parents had not gone out "on the piss", they had gone for a meal at a restaurant. The time at which they did this was around 10.00pm, about the time for children as young as theirs to go to sleep. They left the children sound asleep in the room and locked the doors. Inspection of the room later found that the windows happened to be extremely weak, that's all.
