New Norwich City manager Lee Payne has a tough job on his hands, as his team prepares to play in the Barclays Premiership during season 2004-2005.

The Canaries were champions of Nationwide Division One in season 2003-2004 under manager Nigel Worthington, but he refused to renew his contract.

"I am looking forward to managing Norwich as they have been my favourite team from a very young age. I was born and bred in Norwich," said Payne.

Chairman Roger Munby has explained to Payne that his objective for the upcoming season is to avoid relegation.

"A club like Norwich can't expect to be promoted to the Premier League and then win the championship in their first season. This is a realistic view from the board of directors, and this is confirmed by the fans,".

Upcoming Fixtures

10th July 2004: friendly v Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park
18th July 2004: friendly v Leeds United at Carrow Road
24th July 2004: friendly v PSV Eindhoven at Carrow Road
