SOme peoples were discussing this topic on channel 4 forum and their point was that odi worldcup isnt really pinnacle of cricket because one-days are very un-predictible and any team could beat anyother team in odi(example: bang beating aus.). so what do u guyz think? is one day world cup really pinnacle of cricket?

It probably is the pinnacle of cricket. Aus have risen time and time again. If you are the best in the world you should be able to win the big games. The lost to Bangladesh was cause Aus weren't fully ready. With the World Cup all teams get equal build up. Also its not like Aus has dropped off come World Cup time like in Rugby where England have dropped off majorly.

Until they have a test match world cup, or a test system that leads to a final every four years, the World Cup will remain the best trophy to win.

Pinnacle of cricket is the Ashes although as it only includes england and Australia probably the world cup.

Well for Australia and England, the Ashes means more than 100 world cups combined. But for the rest there is no option.

Lol this isnt true. 100 World cups means 400 years of cricket :D thats quite a lot ;) . no offence to our english posters but before 2005 ashes australia were winning every ashes and ashes had become pretty predictible(ie australia beating england easily). Although recent ashes might change that but i still think that Odi WC is pinnacle of cricket. But if they ever introduced a Test world Cup or test World championship (or anything like that) id be the first one to buy tickets for all the games.

I just love test cricket ;)

To be honest a Test Championship League Season in a two year pattern would be awesome and the best way to the see the performances of teams.

But at the moment, for me, the Ashes is the biggest trophy in cricket.

I like the world cup because it features the only one day games that mean anything (even though the format should be changed to eliminate the horribly stagnant parts of the tournament), and it forces the majority of teams to play abroad (where the true ability of a team can be ascertained).

I know the Aussie and English players would say the Ashes is hands down the pinnacle of cricket but from a young spectators point of view, the Border-Gavaskar trophy is my favourite series. I believe it superior to the Ashes at present because it has featured fiercely contested matches over and extended period of time. In my lifetime (prior to this series) the Ashes have been a joke, and hardly a spectacle from a supporters point of view. If England can take the Ashes this year and back it up with a win in Australia then my interest will be re-kindled. Hopefully it is headed this way and England can live up to the lavish praise the players and their fans are heaping upon them.

They've changed the 1st round format to mean fewer first round games, but they're going with a Super 8 second stage instead of doing something sensible and going straight to knockout or even a second group phase (2 groups of 4) as in the Under 19 World Cup.

English and Aussies will say the Ashes and everyone else the world cup

I'd rather win the Ashes than the World Cup easy

There will never be a test match world cup which would be the pinnacle of world cricket. The ODI World Cup I agree is pretty unpredictable! Although I like England to do well, im not that dissapointed if we dont play well in world cups! Id much rather see test match success, because as the name suggests they are the ultimate TEST
