Pakistan A v Australian XI - 3 day match - at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore - 1998/9 - Drinks Update, Session 1, Day 1

Drinks, Session 1, Day 1:

Australian XI 64/0 (17 overs)

M.L.Hayden 44*(57 balls)7 fours
J.L.Langer 20* (45 balls) 1 four

Mohammad Akram 3-0-14-0
Aamer Nazir 5-1-19-0
Abdul Razzaq 2-0-14-0
Shakeel Ahmed snr 2-0-11-0
Mohammad Hussain 2-1-1-0
Shoaib Malik 2-1-1-0
Saleem Malik 1-0-4-0

Matthew Hayden punished some loose New Ball bowling from the Pakistan A side, racing to 44 inside the first hour.
Justin Langer took longer to settle but started to find his range just before Drinks were taken.
Pakistan A captain Saleem Malik tried 7 bowlers in the first hour including an over of his part time leg spin without success.
It looks like it could be a long day in the field for the Pakistan A bowlers on a Good Batting Wicket which will remain that way at least until Stumps

Shoaib Malik 5-2-9-0
Saleem Malik 1-0-4-0

Notes:

12:13 - M.L.Hayden reaches 50 in 73 minutes off 72 balls with 8 fours.
12:39 - Run Out Chance - Aamer Nazir fumbles as batsmen turn back. Both back safely.
12:48 - Bouncer - Ball In Air - Fierce drive to Mid Off's left - Out Caught - Matthew Hayden c Hasan Raza b Mohammad Akram 74 (108 mins) (100 balls) (9 fours, 1 six) - (Australian XI 111/1 off 31.2 overs) (J.L.Langer 37*)
1:03 Lunch

It was a surprise when Matthew Hayden was caught at mid off from a Mohammad Akram bouncer for 74, the opener had looked good for a hundred or more in a chanceless innings to that point.
At the Lunch break Justin Langer was looking solid on 40* having hit 3 consecutive bouncers off the seamers at one point.
Ricky Ponting made a scratchy start but remained not out on 2* at the Lunch break.
Pakistan A will be relieved to have broken the century plus stand between the openers and will be hoping for early inroads after Lunch.

@ahmedleo414

I will pause this Australia A tour of India after the first match if no India manager has signed up but we can continue with our Pakistan v Australia Test series in the meantime.

Please choose an XI for the following game bearing in mind the Pitch and Weather conditions:

India Board President's XI v Australia A - 3 day match - at Ahmedabad - 1998/9

Pitch: 67 - A damp wicket that is likely to cut up quickly and could offer the bowlers, especially the spinners, a lot of help late in the match. While the wicket stays sound it should play reasonably well, the batsmen are never likely to dominate for long and this could be a low scoring match.

Day 1 Starting Pitch: 5 - Normal Wicket

Day 1 Weather: 8 - Overcast (Swing favoured)

Injuries: None.
