I am annoyed there seems to be no Pakistan domestic cricket thread, it should be stickied where the others are.

Sohail Tanvir has just scored 52* not out, and taken 8-54 and 7-120 in his latest game.

Edit...ask and ye shall receive, thanks to the staff for acting so quickly.

Tanvir is a lethal bowler so I'm not surprised by those figures. His weird bowling action is hard to come to terms with and you can't help but feel the young Pakistani batsmen just won't know what to do and he will keep getting figures like that. The problem is, when he's doing that you have to pick him but then there is the question mark on how many batsmen he will trouble on the international stage.

I'm not sure how well Tanvir will go at Test level, he lacks pace, and once batsmen get used to his action and the shine has gone off the new ball he might struggle to take wickets.

He is good in 20/20 and ODI cricket because batsmen don't have as much time to get used to his action before they have to hit out. Although he is unusual, he is nowhere as hard to figure out as Mendis, it would take a batsman an over or two to work out Tanvir, whereas with Mendis it would probably take a few innings.

For the people who don't know it yet: the Sind High Court has temporarily lifted the bans on 11 ICL players, so they are permitted to play domestic cricket in Pakistan.

And these were really great figures of Tanvir. He has been in form like this for a couple of years now.

Also the ICL players made some impact. Naved-ul-Hasan scored a century and Abdul Razzaq was two runs short of a century.

Big wins for SNGPL, NBP and Rawalpindi

I hope the ICC sort out this ICL v IPL mess, there are too many good cricketers who have had their international careers cut short by this stupidity.

Why should a player be denied the opportunity to earn what he deserves just because some fool has decided the league is "unofficial"?

This stupid ruling would never hold up in court, it is a Restraint of Trade, end of story.

Good to see some of the old names back in domestic cricket again, Pakistan could do with a player like Razzaq now to give the team some balance in the ODIs, and Rana is a much better bowler than Sohail Khan and Yasir Arafat.

Hopefully Sohail Khan and Yasir Arafat have been belted out of international cricket for good after this debacle in the test v Sri Lanka, and Pakistan will get serious with their selections and pick their strongest bowling attack in future.

Come on, it wasn't their fault really. They had absolutely nothing to work with.

Keep in mind these are the players that put their personal reasons ahead of national interest and decided to join the ICL. Yes they had thier own different reasons but i would not put them in the current squad despite how much we need them. These players did not care about the pakistan team

You are right in that they chose money over their national teams, but if you knew your career was probably over or you were not going to get many chances in the national side you would probably do the same thing.

I just don't see how a tournament can be called "unofficial" and therefore result in anyone who takes part in it being banned, especially when the ICL said they would release any players required by their national teams.

Basically the IPL wanted to created a monopoly because they wanted all the money, and that is not a fair reason to ban someone and deny cricket fans the world over the chance to be entertained by their skills.

Anyway, Sarfraz Ahmed has been scoring lots of runs lately, and quickly, don't know what his keeping is like but he is starting to heap the pressure on Akmal now, looks like we might have another Moin Khan v Rashid Latif style battle brewing over the next few years.

Slowcoach you are completely right about the fact that if your international careers are over than you wouldnt think twice before joing ICL.

I think the best solution to the ongoing saga for Pakistan is to clarify with ICC about the ICL players ban from international cricket. If there is now official ban which shouldnt be then pakistan can start negiotating with The ICL officials and PCB can then actually select the Lahore Baadshahs team consisting of the best domestic talented players so they can also make money as well.

IMO i think sarfaraz ahmed still needs to prove his consistency at the domestic level. i was honestly not tht impressed with his performance in Asia Cup. But Kamran Akmal certainly deserves competition for his spot since he hasnt cemented his spot after being keeper for quite some time.

Also the domestic cricket needs to be sorted out. 22 teams?? that is even larger than the counties!!!!

The bowling standards in Pakistani Domestic Cricket are hilarious. In the RBS Cup recently, some fella that opened the bowling (albeit on debut), Usman Sarwar got smacked for 78 off 3 overs, with 4 wides and 0 no balls, so 74 runs off the bat in 3 overs. Salman Butt smacked 92 off 25 balls, which basically says it all. Makes Bryce McGain feel abit better though, he thought he was bad :p

King Pietersen is probably taking his frustration out on the match, I was going to talk about, after his team received the trashing of West Indies. Just because one bowler got hit by Butt, doesn't mean all bowlers are bad. Butt is an international player, so it's not surprising he does well in domestic cricket. But the way he did it is pretty amazing. Here is a story about it.

Butt blitzkrieg powers NBP to semi-finals

March 28, 2009

As if inspired by Chris Gayle's onslaught in the low-scorer against England on Friday, Salman Butt pulled off a batting masterclass of his own for National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) at the Lahore City Cricket Association Ground. Butt shredded a hapless Lahore Eagles bowling attack with an unbeaten 92 off 25 balls, helping his team chase a rather imposing 123 in just 6.1 overs. His opening partner Nasir Jamshed, who made an unbeaten 26 watched the fun at the other end, as Butt slammed 88 of his runs in boundaries. In less than half and hour, the game was over and NBP stormed into the semi-finals. Lahore were pegged back at 34 for 5 after being asked to bat first and it was their debutant Naeem Arshad who top scored with 27. The seamer Uzair-ul-Haq was the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 27. The innings was wrapped up in 40.3 overs before Butt saw to it that the entire match didn't even last 50.
