PC Airways (a new start)

Damn I already took off with Ahmenabad as the destination, I'll see what we are looking like halfway and might divert to Baroda, it'll cost points but at least we'll be safe.

Worst thing for us right now would be a crash in this 737, the insurance would not pay much and we'd not have enough to buy another one.

----------

What we should have done is a small hop to Calcutta and then a long flight across India to the Pakistan border side.

----------

I purposely took very little cargo on this flight and already I can see that our range is extended by a LOT!. I think we'll make it to Ahmenabad no problem, then might just fly the two pilots alone with an empty plane on a very long hop.

----------

here's an in flight report

so at least 3 more hours of flight time left!

Haha, knew you wern't flying the whole way. Of course that is what every sensible person does though, simming by x16 I mean.

I fly the whole decent though, at least the last 20-30 minutes of it and of course the entire approach and landing.

Still don't know how to use the auto land, or what that "course" "nav" and "apr" button on the Autopilot are

LS1 safetly lands in Ahmenabad, India. (Choie)

LSI pushed it to the fuel limit, landing in Ahmenabad with just 1 hours worth of reserve fuel left.

It was also the jet's first night landing.

Choie made a much better landing compared to his first try in Hong Kong.

One step closer to Schipol! Suggestions for where we go next open, I won't do that till tomorrow.

On approach

Each runway at larger airports has an ILS (Instrument Landing System) frequency that allows you to align your plane with the runway both in terms of height and distance and direction. When you know the ILS for the runway (can be found on the flight map) you can set up your approach and landing. Once the plane "captures" the ILS you can put it on autopilot using Apr (Approach) and the plane will fly itself down to the runway thresh-hold. It is a little bit of work to get it setup but most planes fly automatically until about 30 feet off the runway and even then much of the landing is automatic (braking etcetera). On the flight map you see a purple arrow like thing pointing off one or two ends of the runway if it has ILS. When you click on it it should give the frequency.

I had a nice tutorial a time ago about it. I will see if I can find the link....

This maybe for starters: http://www.navfltsm.addr.com/ils.htm

This one is excellent as well: http://www.toomuchfs.com/tutorials/ILS/tutorial_ils.htm

In the Fs2004 tutorials you can learn it as well I think. Good luck! Nothing beats capturing the glidescope and bringing the plane down using correct procedures!

I'll give that a go in a few test flights. What I usually do is use the auto pilot to maintain about 3000 ft above the runway when I contact the ILS, then I manually fly the right heading using the localizer, once I am lined up, I disengage the autopilot and manually fly the glideslope down to minimums, then it's all visual from there on.

Not the best technique but it's definitely fun :)

Yes sir and tomorrow you are being shipped off to the Carribean to start our charters down there. Most likely be based out of Princess Juliana Int in the Antilles, unless you want a different island base. Princess Juliana is probably the coolest airport in the world though.

Also have a video coming up that shows the sea plane operations.

yeah, i flew a ultralight around that airport before crashing into the sea :p, so since i'm familiar with it; Princess Juliana should be fine. ;)

LS1 damaged after Covvy performs bouncy landing.

LS1 received significant damage as it touched down in Dubai Intl airport on New Years Day.

Pilot Covvy was ruled to be at fault, coming into land at almost -800 ft/m

Total damage to LS1 totals over $800,000. The plane will receive repairs in Dubai and then continue on it's way to Amsterdam.

The pilot also initally overshot the airport due to a lack of awareness and had to circle back to land, this delay was well over 45 minutes and put the flight way behind schedule.

Covvy has been suspended for 2 days, Choie will be flying the next two flights on LS1.
