South Africa vs Sri Lanka

South Africa 22/5 after 6 overs

Graeme Smith won the toss and without any doubt he decided to bat first on Bristol pitch which is a paradise for batsmen. Klusner made a comeback in South African one day team while Sri Lanka made no change to its team.

The batting first decision proved disastrous for South Africa as Vaas and Malinga rip off the South African top order as they slipped on to 22/5 at the end of just six overs. All of the top five batsmen for SA failed to go in double figures. Vaas picked up three wickets while Malinga made two South Africans victim to his venomous bowling. All five wickets were caught and Fernando grabbed three of those catches.

Sri Lanka need 314 runs to win against South Africa

South Africa 313 all out in 50 overs

More problems for South Africa as Vaas gets two more wickets of POllock and Dippenar and South Africa in some huge trouble with 44 for 7 after 8 overs. Now all hopes for SA are on Boucher and Boje.

Boucher and Boje didnot let their team down and shared a record 8th wicket partnership of 240 runs. During this partnership both smashed the ball all over the ground as Boucher hit 18 sixes and Boje smashed 10 sixes. Boucher played the best inning of his life as he scored his highest one day score of 154 runs which came off only 59 bowls. He completed his century in 35 bowls breaking the previous record of Afridi with 37 bowls and completed his 150 in 57 bowls. Boje missed his well deserved century by ony 3 runs. Boucher was eventually stumped by Sangkara off Samarveera who finished with 2 for 30.

India 14/0 in pursuit of 192 to win against England

India 14/0 in 5 overs, in pursuit of 192 to win against England

Virender Sehwag and Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who has opened the innings today, started off very cautiously against some superb controlled swing bowling from both Darren Gough and Steve Harmison. As the weather started cooling up, both the opening bowlers got generous amount of swing and the Indian batsmen found it hard to adjust. India scored only 2 runs off the first two overs.

Sehwag then opened up in the third over of Gough scoring 6 runs. Sehwag cover drove a beautiful four off Gough in that over which bisected both Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Flintoff and ran away to the fence with great speed! Dhoni had a very terrible time in the middle as both Gough and Harmison didnt allow any room for him to free his arms and tied him down with toe crushing yorkers which Dhoni fended off! Sehwag again freed the shackles in the 5th over with a uppish drive over midwicket for another four as India were 14/0 after 5 overs

Some fantastic bowling by Gough and Harmison backed up with tight fielding by the English fielders are making this tough for India to free themselves up! Dhoni looks to get out anytime. This opening partnership is going to prove very crucial if India are to win this match!

England innings highlights

In between the Indian innings, lets see the highlights of how the England innings folded up. England kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Kevin Pietersen batted fluently and kept the England scorecard going with a fine 50.

Collingwood hits a full length delivery from Khan straight to square-leg. It was a poor shot from Collingwood as he was expected to carry on and help England reach a competitive total! Flintoff lost his middle stump to Zaheer Khan's in swinger. A great ball by Zaheer Khan which completely bambozzled Flintoff

Pietersen is adjudged LBW to a ball pitching outside leg-stump. After playing a very fine innings of 63, Pietersen missed the line of the ball which pitched outside leg stump and moved a shade back in to hit him on leg stump!

Geriant Jones and Ashley Giles ressurected England's collapse against some discplined bowling by India with a valuable partnership before Harbhajan Singh got rid of Geriant Jones, trapping him LBW in front of the stumps. It was an arm ball by Bhajji which Jones had no clue whatsoever!

The tail then folded up too easily allowing India to chase a very meagre total of 192 runs to win!

England roar back into the match!

Match evenly poised - India 61/3 after the first 15 overs

At this stage of the match, one cant expect to predict better enough as both teams are superbly placed in a precarious balance! India who were looking good to run away to the target, faltered poorly to pull England back into the match! First of the wickets to fall was Sehwag who was yorked superbly by Steve Harmison to be bowled for 21. It was a toe crusher from Harmison and Sehwag was left stuck to his crease as the ball skidded into his stumps sounding the death rattle

sehwagout5ox.jpg

Dhoni who was finding it tough to buy a single run, started to free his arms trying to make room for himself and started to belt out free flowing strokes! He smashed the first six of the Indian innings through midwicket off the bowling off Darren Gough! It was merry time for the Indian fans as the Indian batsmen found their timing right and the runs started flowing. Sachin Tendulkar also flicked Simon Jones through square leg for another four!

dhoni65ua.jpg

However against the grain of play, Ashley Giles stuck a huge blow for India by getting the prized scalp of Sachin Tendulkar. It was a poor shot by Tendulkar when there was a cover fielder and Tendulkar drove the ball uppishly to give Kevin Pietersen an easy offering at covers. The England players celebrated wildly as Tendulkar trudged back to the pavilion out for 7!

sachinout2ef.jpg

Dravid came to the middle and in an unusual manner, smashed two consecutive fours which was very much unlike Dravid who normally takes his time to settle down in the middle. But Gough had other plans as he bowled a quicker ball on the off and middle stump as Dravid tried to steer it away through the leg side but was rapped plumb in front of his off stump. The umpire had no hesitation whatsoever to rule Dravid out for 8!

dravidlbw7xq.jpg

Ganguly and Dhoni then played out the remaining overs till the field restriction rule was in effect. Dhoni is out out on 21* and Ganguly is not out on 1*. India are scoring at a rate of 4.1 per over at the first 15 overs in pursuit of a run rate of 3.85. Since the scoring rate is bound to drop rapidly after the first 15 overs, India need to make sure that they keep rotating the strike and keep the required run rate in check as they have already lost 3 wickets! They need to keep it going as England have Ashley Giles and other bowlers who can turn things around on India!

India 61/3 (15 overs) | MS Dhoni 21* | S.Ganguly 1*

Who is playing as South Africa? I see in the website that its Karachi express? If yes, then didnt Karachi Express say he is not able to use Tutsi's patch? Then some one else should play instead of him coz 313 off 26 overs after being 44-7 is totally unrealistic!!!!! And it would not be a fair competition when one person is scoring more than 10 runs per over consistently and scores 300+ in 25 overs or so!!!!

Planetcricket Super Cup Score Updates

The scores of the India vs England match are being updated here! India are surging towards victory in their first match against England!

England still in the match - India need 60 to win!

England still in the game!

England for all reasons can still feel assured that they're in this game! India have mixed great shots with stupid dismissals which takes the sheen off their performance today! After the 15 overs restriction when they were 61/3, Ganguly was out bowled for 11 when he tried to defend a yorker from Simon Jones but it was too tough for him to defend and it crashed into the stumps.

gangzbowled4gj.jpg

VVS Laxman then joined MS Dhoni who was in very good form. Dhoni's shots were very pleasing to watch as he hit most of his strokes with the middle of his bat! When in good form, he is a delight to watch as Ganguly's decision to open with him has proved to be lucky for India today as he is holding up on one end whearas his more illustrous team mates are falling at the other end!

dhonishote1yp.jpg

VVS Laxman also applied himself in before he played some very very special shots that left the viewers pleasantly surprised! Laxman has been in and out of the team and whenever in team, he has been out of form and it was surprising to see him in the kind of form that he was in today! His shots over midwicket were more powerful and he fully freed his arms and spanked those drives.

laxmanshot9zv.jpg

Laxman was also lucky to be reprieved twice today by the umpire Russell Tiffin. Ashley Giles drifted in a quicker delivery to which Laxman padded up and was plumb in front of the wicket but the umpire thought otherwise! He was also bowled off a no ball off the bowling off Steve Harmison! But his luck deserted him when he was 26 as Dhoni called him for a run when it was there for the taking but Laxman failed to ground his bat into the crease. Jones collected the ball and whipped the bails off in a flash and Laxman failed to ground his bat in time to be run out for 26!

laxmanout9mu.jpg

Yuvraj Singh is out there in the middle with Dhoni who has reached his half century! He is not out on 50* and Y.Singh is not out on 1*. Its still game on for England as the tail follows this pair (Agarkar is not an all rounder!). So India even they have a very easy run rate to score their runs with, need to be very careful about not losing wickets!

India 132/5 | MS Dhoni 50* | Y.Singh 1*

I completely agree with you sais. I am going to say some hard things now to Karachi Express. And we cant put everyone's fun on stake for one member who cant use official patch.
