Platini - tosser

Football is global. Support whoever you want. A lot of the revenue comes from overseas TV and merchandise distribution, so we have every right to support foreign-based clubs.

Aye, sometimes the word "gloryhunting" doesn't go anywhere near far enough in describing some people.

You get a very strong feeling to the club you truly support. It's what makes you ecstastic after a win and what ruins your weekend after a defeat. You only get it with one club. The chances are if you support a club from overseas it is only because they are doing well, so in all honesty your club has to be from your own country.

On the subject of foreign investors, I think they rip the hearts out of clubs. Manchester United, for instance, have not been a football club since the Glazers took over, they have been a brand. The same with Chelsea, and so on. There has been talk of investment at Norwich recently and thankfully the ones in the frame are local businessmen, not foreigners who don't know what the club is about.

That, my friend, is glory-hunting.

So I'm restricted to supporting Bloem Celtic in the PSL and no overseas teams even if I feel an affinity towards them?

Overseas leagues produce a far higher level of football than the PSL and I'm much more interested in watching those leagues play, it's well within my rights to support a team thats not from my country. It makes me a fan not a glory hunter.

Very true, although I'd even say it was before the Glazers came, with the removal of "football club" from the club crest. I think we kept some soul though, only by FC United and the majority of our fans opposing the takeover.

Maxkarter, you've just admitted you support a team from abroad because it is a higher standard of football. If that isn't glory hunting then what is?

How does wanting to watch better quality make me a glory hunter? What it makes me, is a person that appreciates high quality football, something thats nice to watch. Glory hunting is going around looking to support the best team and when they aren't doing well, leaving them and jumping to someone else.

I don't really see a point in argueing with you, as you have a superiority complex over most of the posters in this forum who aren't English and have a firm belief that the world is against Manchester United.

This argument I believe is based on our two different definitions of glory hunting, to me its picking the side thats doing well because they're doing well (and imo its irrelevant if you stick with them).

So by that reasoning how are you meant to pick a team to support if there is not history of any football following in your family? Going to a bingo night and drawing teams?

But what you say is contradictory anyway, first you say that watching football of a higher standard than what is offered locally is glory hunting, then you say its supporting a side because they are doing well, so which one is it?

Now by those two points, whether or not the team is actually a title contender or relegation fighter I'd be a glory hunter due to your two definitions.

I'll leave it at this ;)

You could choose to support a team, for reasons other than the fact they are doing well. I dont know the exact reason for supporting Madrid. They were many things, including the old computer games, random matches I saw before starting to follow football on a regular basis.

Fact is, I dont care what you term it, I choose my team, and I have stuck by them. Yes I also like Chelsea (even before the Abramovich era), Fiorentina (even when they were in C2), and VfB Stuttgart (family connections with the city of Stuttgart), but the club I consider my own and have the same kind of feelings that skater mentioned, was, is and always will be Real Madrid. And now that I've taken membership, makes me pretty much a part of the club.

Aye, lets leave it at that maxkarter.

Erm, how? Cos you're paying money to get a newsletter every month or whatever Madrid send?

No its because I feel I am contributing (however small be the magnitude) to the club. The stuff we get are just formalities. I know this is not the criteria, but it feels better to be "official" members. Paying for something you really like, and dont expect anything in return.

You don't need a little stick-on badge to be considered a supporter.
