After some of th most dismal years in the history of West Indian cricket there is hope that two men can ressurect them and create a world force strong enough to become the BEST IN THE WORLD

First the West Indian skipper Brian Charles Lara and to many the greatest batsmen to grace the wonderful turf of cricket.

Second Freddie Seccombe- a young manager who at the age of 35 is ready to lead this once dangerous side to great victories in the hopefully near future.


After years of turmoil the years of Clive Llyod, Sir Vivian Richards and Curtly Ambrose, only to name a few. Are upon us again.

The West Indians will have experiance youth and they will bring the party to pakistan and then host it during the world cup in hope to lift the trophy so long ago there own.

The coverage will be from the sky sports team throughout the games and following every series there will be a review teamed by Richie Benaud and Clive Llyod as they will discuss the pros and cons for the west indies.

This Squad similar to the previous selections although young 24 year old batsmen- IMRAN KHAN was selected purely on skill and according to Curtley Ambrose as he watched the young man bat in a charity match 'I wouldn't want to have to bowl against him on this track-dangerous on teh back foot he is' This surprised me although watching him score 138 off 72 balls showed me his standards and he is thought to be the inspiration that could set alight this Strong west indian Squad
Another Surprise is the selection of three spinners- omari banks(24) and Jaggernauth(21) and miller (23) understanding has it that samuels and gayle will look to fill in the overs. Especially in the One Day Games. This will be a change as the West Indies has never been known for talent of spin.

Raw pace is the way and again maybe a hope to bring back the glory days playing, Best-Edwards and Lawson all being capable of clocking 150KM plus(90 MPH)

Said on Arrival in the press conference Seccombe stated him and Lara had built a strong relationship and felt that they could lead the west indies to great thing even after he has retired.

News from pakistan shows they are very confident and there is plenty of tension before the first test. We jsut hope you can be there.

Rain Rain Go Away Come Back Another Day

Over the First 10 Days of the West Indies tour ther has been serious rain.
This has cancelled out the masholand friendly game and put them under serious pressure. Going into a big first test with very little practice and no match preparation.

This has not stopped fitness and the West Indians have been running around Pakistan with at least 10 different sitings in the last few days.

Finally we have also heard news from the West Indian cricket board and there will be a series against Australia just weeks before the world cup

Runs Runs Runs

1st Test Preview

Just days before the first test Miller and has broken a nose and has been placed in surgery, in the lahore Gymnasium nets, as in line to bowl in the nets they Lara struck a straight drive slipping throught the hands of Sarwan and hitting Miller straight in teh face. Not the greatest way to start your interantional career. He will be in surgery and unable to preform in this series. . We will bring you more to this story but first the player who have replaced them. First mohammed a left arm off spinner who is 27 and has played 3 test matches with a bowling average of 61.

Corry Collymore ahs also picked up a regulation strain and will probably be out of the first two tests. Saying he will happy to carry the drinks as long as it is for the winning team!!!

Now onto the more important matter of the cricket

Here is a picture of the two captains just hours before the toss. Holding up the trophy that they will both be hoping to win.

CONDITIONS


The First test seems perfect for batting. After some horrinle conditons since the West Indians arrived they have woken up and felt at home. The sun shininng down upon the hard bouncy Rawalpindi Track. Spinners wil be the key in the first test althought the 3rd and 5th days seem that they could have a bit of cloud cover and the ball may get a bit of swing. As Geoffry Boycott says 'I'd book in for bed and breakfast on this, bat all day, bat all night RUNS RUNS RUNS'

The West Indians choosing to let Lara have a go behind the stumps and playing a 3 strong seam attack with the two spinners. Obviously seeing it is a batting track the West Indians will be batting all the way down to 8 and probably looking to post a huge score in the first innings

The Pakistanis opting for a different method playing the four seamers and only the one spinner. Their side not including aggresive all rounder shahid afridi. The batting is strong and yousef will be looking to continue his wonderfukl form and look to break more records.

to get font and colours go right down to the bottom of page and then on the little blue bar it says cricket style . Change it to planet cricket style. Then when you post click on the colours and font above writing your message then select!

Poor Start

The West Indian innings started badly with Hinds going for only 7 with teh score 0n 16. After looking good he played all down the wrong line and was completely doen by W.Ahmed(LFM). 16-1

Second to Go was gayle after batting well and building a 52 partnership with sarwan he went for 42. Just as he was beggining to get on top of Saqlaen Mustaq he pulled out hte doosra. It went straight through the defenses, caught an edge and was safely pouched by Akmal. 68-2 and the West Indies are in trouble.

With 10 balls remaining until lunch Lara had come in and negotiated the bowling well. On teh other hand sarwan had a strike rate of 30 and had been bogged down to a state at which every single was applauded. Finnally losing concentration and going for the big one getting caught at second slip by Imran Farhat of the short long hop from S.Ahmed(RFM). Chanderpaul in and the score looking dodgy at 90 for 3.

LUNCH

Not good for the west indies and you can see the dissapointment up on the balcony as Chanderpaul and Lara come in for Lunch.

Second Session Recovery-Lets Hope

A great start to the second session for lara and Chanderpaul pushing the score onto 167-3 with still another 30 minutes left in the session. Lara bringing up his 50 with a check drive for four and chanderpaul sitting on 32 not out the partenership just reaching 77 and looking good for the windies.

As they reach tea on teh first day i think that West Indies conquered the session in fashion hitting 76 runs in the session without the loss of a wicket.
Lara, Chanderpaul and coach Seccombe know how important it is for them to start the series well and will probably be looking for a score in the region of 400-600.
