Retirements in 2008

He know's hes been blocking Haddin for a few years now. Also Haddin isnt exactly a youngster he is 30 now. Cant see any Aussies retiring before the next Ashes.

Jaques
Hayden/Rogers
Punter
Hussey
Clarke
Symonds
Haddin
Lee
Cullen
Johnson
Clark

Or Tait or Hilfy as other pacers.

I dont think were in trouble. Next year Gilly probably will retire and Hayden might try and go to the 09 Ashes. Punter and Huss are only 33, they will be only 35 by the next Ashes. (Punters 34 now though I think)
Symonds is 30 I think, Haddin is 30, Lee is 30, Clark is 31 or something, Johnson, Cullen, Tait, Hilfy, Bailey, Adcock... Many young bowlers that are waiting in line if players do retire before the next Ashes.

I know hayden wants to play alot longer but i dont think his body will hold up.
Notice how lately hes been getting alot of small injuries so i think he will call it a day next year or the 1 after due to too many annoying injuries.
It wont be becuase of form or wanting to leave on a high.

I dont like haddin for some reason, i really hope he doesnt take over from gilly.

An i think tendulkar is the type of guy who wants to leave on a high so wont play much longer incase theres another slump in form.

Nothing can be said about India. I'd like to see at least 1 of our big three out by the end of 2008, though, clearing the way for Subramaniam Badrinath.
I think Rahul Dravid will call it a day (that is not becasue of his performance yesterday :p)

Rahul Dravid seems to be the hot favorite, maybe because of his lack of form.
I reckon he'll call it quits from the ODI team seeing as there is no place for him,but he'll continue playing Tests.

Australia
Gilchrist will go,but not sure when.Ponting might just go after the next Ashes, accompanied by Hayden.

England
As said Vaughan.Another person is Harmison and Flintoff[ankle keeps troubling]

Sri Lanka
Jayasuriya and Vaas-cant think of any one else.

Pakistan
Shoaib Akthar if he does not start getting wickets.

South Africa
Would be sad,but i belive this is coming right after the Indian tour-Shaun Pollock

Why Vaughan??? Hes playing some really good cricket, He's 33..He's Captain and at this moment in time aapart from colly there isnt really anyone to take over the captaincy. Strauss's place isnt certain as we can see, Flintoff should neevr get it back it put to much pressure on a player of his ability, Colly he is still to inexpierenced.

Which all players will hang up their boots in the New Year ?
Discuss all here.

I think, we might just see a few big names opting to retire.

Jaysuriya for one might retire from all forms of the game.
English captain Micheal Vaughan also is a possibilty.

Vaughan would only retire if he will score a century in The OD Format.

Another Far Australian Case,; Brad Hogg maybe the one or Gilly from ODs?.

I'm a lot confused with the Australian Retirements. Possibly, We won't be seeing any of the retirements this year or the next one yet.;).

Freddie Flintoff may have to Pack up! And retire or pick up the commentry job. Because, He's turned From This

To

This.

If he waas fit and didn't have any injuries. He could have rocked the world. Still, Cricketing life isn't over for him Yet, "He is a man of miracles"; The 2005 Ashes said.;). I would really love if he comes back into our international team.

Entirely, I wouldn't expect any special or "much-many" Retirements. Because, "Day-By-DaY", Cricket is only going interesting and much more inventive with the formats and rules And even the cricketing Trend which we used to have in those classic Old days".:D.

You've all named the obvious ones. No one saw Astle's retirement coming so early.
How about Shane Bond? He has way too many injuries and another one might end is career completely. I hope not cause he is my favourite bowler. Kumble perhaps by late next year or early 2009. Probably depend on his success as a captain.

Kumble will be gone in Dec 08 or Jan 09.
Pakistan might just be his last opponent.

Since this was World Cup year therefore most of retirements have happened in this year and next year will be dull in terms of retirements. But here are some probabilities.

Dravid - I dont think hes enjoying cricket and he will retire if his big lull continues in Australia.

Pollock - Unless Greame Smith is fired as captain or he finds 10ks more in his bowling.

Ganguly - If he has good Australia series he might surprise all.

Vaas - He wanst 100 test matches and then OK TATA BYE BYE.

Stuart McGill - I Dont think he will make comeback now ever. Hogg might not set world on fire but is very unorthodox to be left out. Great in field and also handy bat.

Giles - Has he retired or not?

Cant think of any other old guy as player wanna play till 40 these days.

P.S. I dont think any Indian will retire. They will have to be dropped for good from side otherwise we will see same team in 2011 India-Australia series.

Vaas said many time in the last few weeks that he will probably play another year of test cricket and 2 of ODI, so he will probably retire in late 08 or early 09 depending on when Sri Lanka last series of the year is.

MacGill will only retire if he can't get back his test spot either through Hogg shining or a young spinner finally coming through the former more likely.

No offense, but your lack of knowledge regarding Australian cricket continues to astound me.

Hogg will last this series against India for another 2 or maybe even all 3 tests, and will slip off into the night and never play test cricket again. He would have to do a lot to keep his spot beyond that. I can see him retiring in 2008 or 2009, he is pretty old now.

As for MacGill, if he regains his fitness, he will likely get picked and stay on at least until 2009.

Gilly will retire from ODI cricket in 2008, but not test cricket I should think.

Hayden will last at least until after the 2009 Ashes I should think, he's still playing well and has no desire to retire.

No notable retirements down under for me in 2008.

take it back i dont think tendulkar will retire in 08 i didnt realise hes only 34 i thought he was about 36-37.

But still think hayden wont last much longer his body is really struggling these days.

Well firstly i dont live in Australia and secondly dont watch your domestic games. But I do watch Indian cricket and I know this that they would have loved to see McGill in attack rather than Hogg. McGill will be coming from surgery and he looks very similar to Kaneria in all respect (batting, bowling and fielding) while Hoggy can offer much more to Aus cricket in terms of batting, fielding and spirit.

Only time will tell whats going to happen maybe some rookie bowler could come in team (i think theres guy called C.White )

I think Pollock won't retire but if he does he might retire from Test cricket but ODI cricket he has a couple of years left in him. Very economical.
