Rugby 2008

Are there any patches there to improve it (if it needs it) like planetcricket did with Cricket 07?

I've just completed my first season in World League with the Lions, winning division 3 and being promoted to division 2. It was fairly easy to win as i'm playing on pro difficulty, the game's growing on me and i've yet to do RWC 2007.

When I get more time I'll finish of my Super 14 and possibly play the RWC before going to the World League. Also got myself a gamepad so getting use to that could slow down my progress.

Well I've taken the plunge and bought it and have to say apart from it being a tad too easy (I won the RWC with England on elite on my second day with the game), I like it. Doesn't seem as easy to score and the AI defence when your right on their line is A LOT tougher than it is in previous versions.

However, like a lot of EA Sports there are some really stupid bugs and errors, like if you are using "simulation" offloads and the player offloading drops the ball, it doesn't count as a knock-on and when you have to substitute an injured player, it freezes up at certain times (e.g. after scoring).

It just needs to be harder on the highest difficulty.

Is there a chance that it could be patched like Cricket 07 was, by the community? Because if it's still too easy on the highest level, what's the point in getting it?

There is hardly any AI patches for Rugby games. Therugbyforum is the best place to check for any patches.

Would you recommend it overall then (PC Version)? I've never bought an EA Rugby game before.

I would go the PC version seeing as you can patch the rosters more easier meaning star players should be able to be changed and the World league player stats updated. I didn't actually see the update for the WL players in 06 but it looked like they managed to patch that.

I don't mind being able to beat teams like Japan or some other no-hoper easily, but do the big guns like Aussies, All Blacks, England (never know, I might play against 'em one day), SA and so on put up a challenge?

Is it better than a game out a few years back (last World Cup, in fact)
World Championship Rugby (or something like that) by Swordfish Studios? Something I hated about that game was the easy teams were too easy and the hard teams were impossible! Is EA 2008 like that?

Firstly, it is a lot better than either of the Swordfish games. Difficulty wise I've now had to reduce myself to playing as Wales though. Whilst I don't exactly walk away with it against the bigger teams playing as England, I'm hardly likely to lose.

Just finished a cracking game against France, winning 19-17 in the Stade de France. Match length was 20 minutes.
